    Hi,

I've had my S6231 for a couple months now (and it ROCKS!!!) but one thing which I'm wondering if it's normal is a fairly heavy power usage in standby mode.

The power on the standard battery will drop by about 20% in 12 hours
or so. I left it at 48% last night, and this morning it was 20%. Even after a full charge and a few minute's usage to 97%, the next morning it will be down to 75%.

My old notebook (an old Compaq armada) seemed to not drop at all overnight; even after a week of standby it only dropped a few percent.

So is this normal for a 'modern' notebook? Is there any setting that I can change to prolong the standby battery life or should I switch to hibernate with its much longer startup time?

I've noticed the same thing on mine. Try turning off the wifi switch on the back of the computer. This seems to make a big difference for me.

Let me know if it works for you too.

Weird...well, it might make sense to use hibernation then. That will use virtually no power.

As I'm looking to be getting my first laptop, with the s6231 as my top choice (p7010D is my second choice) I'm unfamiliar with all the modes.

Is standy suppose to take up zero power? If it doesn't, isn't that a problem with the s6231?

    thanks.

Isn't standby just leaving the comp on but without powering the HD and other parts but the main system is on, and hibernation is everything is powered off but the "before hibernation" data is cached so you dont have to reboot when going back to the notebook?

Or is it the other way aorund..?

    Ack im confused now..

standby = suspend to ram ... ie motherboard is still partially powered and so are the rams (since they are volatile)
hybernate = suspend to HDD ... nothing is powered, you can even remove the battery (HDD is none volatile...no duh! [ :p])
