Does the S6240 or the S2110 come with a separate CD for all the drivers and hot key programs and such.

I’m asking this because I plan on buying the S6240 or the s2110 with the smallest hard drive available and swapping it with a 7200 RPM drive. I’m going to use my own copy of Windows XP Pro, so I will need the get those drivers and such from somewhere.

I’m also going to upgrade the ram immediately to 1GIG so could you guys tell me where the best place to buy ram is and what exact kind you would recommend that will be the most compatible with each of the these laptops. (Links would be very helpful).

I’m also assuming that the laptop has two removable ram slots. One ram slot on the bottom of the computer and one most likely under the keyboard of the laptop. Please correct me if I am wrong! And is the installation of ram easy for each of these slots.

    1) Yes
    2) Crucial, Kingston, Kingmax or Corsair would be my recommendations. NewEgg generally has nice pricing.
    3) 2 RAM slots, easy to handle.

Don't worry about the driver, they come in the CD, also you can grab them off the net. As for ram, i'd suggests Kingston since they are trusted. The slots are under the notebook, 2 slots together! do a search in the forum, i'm sure you'll be able to find a pic or two, may be not of S6240 but definately of S6230/1..

Good Luck w/ ur laptop :p

EDIT: BRian you beat me to it.. again!

i have read in this forum that if you get the s2110, it might be smarter to get the ddr400 ram. will this tap into another level of speed for the turion?

You are correct in that the S-series has 2 RAM slots that are upgradable. My s2110 came with several installation discs, including a system restore disc for windows. You could easily install that on to another drive. Drivers are available on the disc as well, and you can also get them from the Fujitsu support site.

As for RAM, I would advise either Crucial.com or Newegg.com. Newegg is cheaper, but Crucial will tell you exactly what RAM you need and offers a guarantee on RAM they recomend. I'd at least stop by Crucial to find out what RAM you need (DDR PC 2700 is for the s2110, not sure right off the top of my head what you need for the s6240).

I believe it is DDR 2 in the 6240 - while the 2110 uses same memory type (DDR PC2700) as the 6231.

Is it easy to remove the existing hard drive and put in a different one?

If something happens to my laptop and i have to send it to fujitsu... that means that i have to swap the hardrives so they will work on the my laptop and still keep it under warenty. My question is can they tell that i swapped the hard drive when they work on it?

Can they also tell that i used different ram?

Unscrew one or two screws from bottom of laptop, remove the existing HD from its heat dissipation sleeve, remove the connector. Attach new HDD, put it back in sleeve. Put sleeve back in slot. Replace screws. End of story.
