Few questions for this upcoming new computer:

    1. Super fine screen? Is that just the same as S6231 or better?
    2. What's the major difference between Intel and Atheros wireless card? I actually have heard Atheros' less power consuming than Intel, that true?
    3. I know exactly where the wireless is located as i'm a notebook technician, but i wonder if i replace the Intel card with Atheros, will it work?
    4. Does S6240 come with infrard?

    1. Super Fine is the term Fujitsu uses in Asia for the Crystal View screen, so yes, the same
    2. The Atheros card is supposed to have a better range/power consumption than the Intel card. From what I've heard, the difference is hardly noticeable though.
    3. As long as you install the right drivers and everything
    4. I'm pretty sure it does, yes

The real advantage in the Atheros card is support for Super G, which is 108MBps. I think the card is soldered on teh MB, which means no, you can't switch it. At least not easily.

When is the S6240 going to be offered? I'm looking for another (truly portable) laptop. What are the major differences over the S6231? Thanks.

It should be out soon, mid to late August. The major change is the move to Sonoma.

so if sonoma is the the only real major change would it be worth picking a s6231 up as a lesser price?

Well, you're making the lesser price assumption, I don't think this upgrade will have much impact on price to be honest with you. We'll have to see, but my guess is it will not.

although don't you think with the Intel price cuts on processors last week the $100 savings should make it to consumers in the next couple of weeks?

My point is that Fujitsu rarely raises the cost when a refreshed model comes out. The last refreshes of the P and S series confirm that.

Seems they took down the old units, which is normal, but prices feel about the same to me.

Portable 1 is also advertising the S6240 at their website.

as I mentioned before this is very disappointing update... I had s6231 for 8 month and there is really no reason to upgrade to s6240... Same design. Yeah, it's good, but needs certain improvements. Oh well I can live with it... No bluetooth, same 13.3 XGA screen, it would be nice to have a wide screen option, less battery life for extra power...

Fujitsu does not listen to users, they simply ignore what's going on around them... I guess I will have to look elsewhere for my upgrade.

klas, you nee dto understand that this is just a progressive update, not a re-design. They're simply adopting the latest processors. This is standard practice in the notebook world, signficant updates happen much less frequently. Remember that they've recently released 15.4" and 17" models, so it's pretty clear they're reacting to market demands, just not the ones you want them to, lol. If you can be patient, I'm confident they'll get there, albeit a little more slowly than you want.

Is there any performance difference between the two centrino processors that are offered for the S6240?? In other words would it be worth spending an extra 100 for the slightly faster processor?? Thanks..

There is a performance improvement, but for the average user, the extra clock speed is a waste of $100.
