AFAIK, the first generation of Fujitsu LifeBook S6410 came with merom processors such as T7300 or T7500. The second generation came with penryn T8300. And I know in case of S6510, the big brother of S6410, which shares many components together, is equipped with T9300.
So... Is there anybody who has upgraded his/her S6410 processor to penryn T9300 or T9500?
-
There is three mainboard revisions to S6410 and at least one has penryn support. Machines partlist contains T9300 and T9500 processors. So its possible that they work fine. But I haven't tried.

jäämis, thank you for answering. I was (also) beginning to think that this notebook review's Fujitsu forums is so dead.
So... Not every revision of S6410 mainboard supports penryn? Cause I thought GM965 chipset in S6410 would support merom and 800MHz FSB penryn processor. -
If you want to check revision, remove memory door and memory modules. There should be P/N sticker. If there is sticker and it should say CP330404-XX (last number counts, others are 400 and 402), mainboard is newest revision and has official penryn support. If not, I guess that only way to verify is replace processor and try...
By the way this information is for European models. I'm not sure if these are globally same. Models seem similar. -
I've opened mine. Unfortunately, no revision sticker underneath the memories. I guess you're right about applied only for European models, mine is the Asian version (but not Japanese).
-
It seems that original version (oldest) have no code sticker. I checked one S6410 today and it didn't have sticker either.
-
I have the latest available BIOS already, then I guess it would have to be trial and error to see whether the mainboard accepts T9300/T9500.
-
Did you try CPU-Z?
-
What am I supposed to look at in CPU-Z? I don't think Rev. in CPU-Z Mainboard tab corresponds to mainboard revision as referred by jäämis. It shows Rev. C0 beside GM965 Chipset, so I guess this is just chipset revision.
Is there any difference among GM965 chipset for merom and penryn CPUs? I thought they are supposed to be the same. This is why I'm thinking of upgrading the current T7500 to T9300 or T9500. -
It works with ThinkPads, but I'm not as familiar with Fujitsus. It was worth a shot.

Hi Guys,
Just letting you know that ive upgraded my S6410 from the T7500 to a T9500. You need to make sure you have latest BIOS, i found mine from Fujitsu Asia's website.
My laptop originally shipped with BIOS version 1.09 but the latest version is 1.30. Penryn support was enabled around the 1.24 revision.
The T9500 is supposed to be the most powerful CPU compatible with this laptop and the GME965 chipset. The X9000 is theoretically supposed to work but ive heard that the laptop needs certain BIOS options enabled so that you can change the CPU Frequency and Multipliers.
This is where i got most of my information for my upgrade:

Hope this helps,

Hi Dave, thanks a lot for your information.
As for CPU upgrade path of GM965 chipset, I'm already familiar with it. I only want to know real experience from somebody like you who has done processor upgrade with Fujitsu LifeBook S6410. I don't want to waste $300 buying T9500/T9300 processor for nothing.
As for BIOS, mine is using version 1.30 already for quite some time.
Then next problem is deciding between T9500 and T9300. The thing is... Here in Japan, where I currently live, I could only find bulk version of T9500 whereas T9300 is available in boxed version. This boxed T9300 is more expensive than the bulk T9500.
Dave, did you get your T9500 in boxed version? -
No, I got mine as a bulk CPU from Ebay... I must say I felt vunerable risking my $300, but it paid off in the end...
Just make sure its not an Engineering Sample which I think are the B Stepping CPUs.
The C0 Stepping is a proper revision non ES CPU. -
Thanks again. I'll definitely look into it when buying that processor.
