Just wondering about the modular bay in the S6xx series. I have the S6231 specifically.

I notice that the modular bay can take either an optical drive (DVD-RW/CD-RW) or a battery, both of which I've seen before. I haven't head of or seen a holder for a HDD in that bay. I need extra capacity in my laptop and I've already got the biggest HDD I can find.

Anybody know anything about this? Does it exist, either from Fujitsu, a third party or even another laptop manufactuer who uses same modular bay that might fit in a Fujistu laptop?

Yes it does exist. You can put a another HDD into the modular bay on a HDD bezel. You can buy it from Fujitsu. You need the connector and the HDD tray.

You can order the part through Fujitsu by phone. The P/N is FPCHFK26 ... it's the 2nd HDD fitting kit.

Just called Fujitsu USA direct sales at 1-800 FUJITSU. Then, next I called Fujitsu USA Tech Support at 1-800 838-5487. They have no idea what this part is, says it doesnt even show up in their system

I think you'd need to be more detailed about who you say got this thing from, where you got it and how you got it. Doesn't seem to exist. They claim that their laptops are not and were no designed to take hard drives in that modular bay.

But if you know different and you have specific info, pray tell....

Fujistu USA has never heard of such an item or any of your claimed item numbers. They say that the model is not designed to take a HDD in the bay.

Fujistu canada website has no such product on it:
    http://store.shopfujitsu.com/ca/EcomCA/SelectAccessories.jsp

I think you are blowing smoke. You don't seem to be able to show any proof that this item exists, not even a weblink. These are you only posts on this entire forum - and none appear to have any relation to reality.

I would try PortableOne.com. They will know what is going on.

Spoke with them (PortableOne)and they said the system board of the S series is not desgned for this.

Strange - you'd think that if you went to the trouble of specing a modular bay, you'd include storage as one of the optional modules....

Get a drive and put in a usb case. That is better anyway since you can hook it up to other PCs besides yours.

I think the reality is that most people have no need for such a thing. I don't know how hard it would be to engineer though.

Good idea... USB cases are quite cheap... I can get them for as cheap as $5 at a local computer store. You could find one on ebay for $10-15 shipped. Its very simple to install your HD in a case. Good Luck!

What about installing optical (DVD) drive into a case and using it externally? (Assuming it is modular and can be removed from machine).

I already have that - its silly. You have to carry around an external drive and cables with you to use it. Its a portable, modular device, remember? I'd rather have what I am using inside the laptop, not in a bag.

I have noticed that I never use the optical drive when I am on the go. The only time I use it is at home ripping CD's or birning them. So for my usage pattern, I'd much rather have a 2nd hard drive in that bay when I am on the go. If I ever needed both I should be able to carry both - that's the idea of "modular" right?

All of this is of course drive by the fact that laptop hard drives come in very small sizes. 100Gb is more or less the max and its expensive at $150-180 for most of them. I saw a 120GB laptoo drive and they were asking $250 for that - insane.

So yeah, if I have and extra bay with an optical drive I rarely use, I definitely want to have a HDD in there. Seems pretty elementary and basic to me. I had an HP laptop like 5 years ago that had this capability in the modular bay. Its nothing spectacular new or earth-shattering...

If Fujistu USA, Fujistu Canada and Portable say it doesn't exist, then it dosn't exist aas far as I'm concerned - because I can't buy it.

Pics are interesting but I don't see a connector, I dont see any evidence that it fits in a Fujitsu S series - or works - and I dont have a part number that anyone related to Fujistu recognizes as for real.

Cute pics though - but pics is all it is.

You can see the connector on the 2nd pic (although its blurry). That modular drive bay came from the US. The P/N I gave you was the real thing. If those pics doesn't make u a believer... thats fine. Coz I've seen it worked on my friends S series. I'm a techie person so I know what I'm talking about... I'm not making up crap or anything ... I'm not getting anything from any of this. I'm here to share what I know. I know things that could get me killed ;)

I keep the 2nd battery in my modular slot. If I needed secondary hd storage, I would have gotten a p1 mx.

No, sorry. The construction was not clear to me at all. Secondly no one at Fujitsu USA, Fujistu Canada or Portable one could verify any of your part numbers or info. Not a single person.

You call them and get a number we can verify or a weblink they have on any Fujitsu and then we'll believe you.

Until then, its fairy tales and pics of nothing in particular - that includes all five of your posts on this website BTW. Sorry.

    Here are more pics ...

What's with the number of post??? It doesn't matter how many post you have that number doesn't tell anything. Somebody can have a single post and he could know more that any of us. You get the point?

I gave you everything.... Part number, description, where its from, even with pictures! The proof is right before your eyes. If you still don't believe... I'm SORRY, you just have to dig deeper.

You mean like your imaginary friend the "notebook consultant" who just made his first post right below you?

Yeah...right. Funny how he crawled ouf the woodwork.

FYI, your pics are fake - we dont see the hard drive connected. Aslo that a Fujitsu laptop but it is not a Fujitsu S-Series laptop. That has never been sold in Europe - and what is in your pics is not S-Series - it looks different.

Which is the point that Fujistu USA made: it is not available on S Series.

Keep you migainary friend and at home. He doesn't "know" anything.

what are you talking about? jsis has 128 posts!! are u on crack or something???? How could I fake a notebook??? cant you see the kit is actually inside the bay???? That was an S6120... try to zoom-in on the last pic ( just on the bottom left of the keyboard) Yup that's right....... S Series Lifebook... check ur facts before jumping into conclusions. Would the Fujitsu Europe site post misleading info??? Think man!!!! Look at it both of the part numbers I gave you are there! What you want a video of the drive actually being inserted into the modular bay???

FYI, the modular HDD kit can be used on models of the S6xxx series and E7xxx series, coz they have the same connector. That's a fact.

-Well - your so-called "fact" is refuted by Fujitsu USA, Fujistu Canada and Portable One.
-None of the claimed product numbers you have provided are recognized by any of the above offical point of reference

So what - is there a conspracy against your "fact"? You figure out who is on crack....maybe you'll be claiming that your name is Fujutsu next...
