So, question now is, why would Fujitsu be so stupid as to give reviewers notebooks that have a manufacturing problem -- that's the worst possible audience to give a notebook with glitches in.
-
Thanks for the information. You mentioned before that Fujitsu is pretty stingy about sending out samples. Seems like in this case they would be very anxious to get as many production-ready models out to reviewers as possible to refute the bad keyboard claims.
I'm more hopeful that the refresh will include a Dothan update. The Intel 855GME chipset in the S7000 supports it, and since this is a new model I would think they would want to keep it cutting edge when the Dothans roll out. I could be very wrong but we'll see I guess. -
personally i'd kinda like to see a dedicated video card in it.
-
Well, here you go...more info from inside sources. Seems the 6000 is getting a facelift too...and what a nice one it will be!
The new P7000 & S6200's will both have the CV (Crystal View) 300 NIT displays The S6200 series will look basically the same as the current S6100's but the P7000 has changed significantly, .4lbs lighter, CV display, finger print sensor, Super G wifi plus more stuff that has not been disclosed.
More to come...

No word on price yet...I'm now hearing that the tiny P5000's will also be getting the new screens. That will be enough for me to upgrade after only owning this one a few months.

will fujitsu change the screen onf S7000D to SXGA (1400x1000) with crystal view or al least on crystal view ? I really hope they put that option, so people who want better screen will feel enjoy with that laptop.
-
We'll see very soon...I'm hearing within a few weeks.

Brian,
You say you'd get the new P if the screen was better than the current p5020 -- Can you tell me what you'd prefer about the new Crystal View screen?
I hear it looks great - but also more glossy -- therefore, reflective? -- than the P5020 screen. Can you tell me your thoughts on that?
When I've seen Sony Xbrite's on the TR series, they seem very reflective to me - I'm not sure I'd like that. Are the Crystal Views similar to that, reflection wise?
Thanks. -
The CV screens are not as reflective as the Sony screens from what I've seen. I really didn't like the reflectiveness of the TR series, that was a reason I stayed away. Well...that and the inability to upgrade certain items like the hard drive. Anyway...the CV screens are very nice, considered to be the best LCDs in notebooks today by many. Glossy is a concern for me, but the brightness and clarity of the CV may outweigh that issue.

oooo. good news
there is a nice looking Mitac widescreen notebook making the rounds these days that is susposed to have upcoming Dothan support, i forget the model ..
i'm kinda waddling between widescreen and fujitsu, but i've pretty much decided to wait and see what comes from dothan.. from what i can tell, there will be a few ripples in the notebook market when dothan is unleashed on the 10th -
I'm not so sure a Dothan refresh by Fujitsu is completely out of the question in either a new S6000 model or the S7000 "reloaded". I have nothing to back that up, just that there is a lot of circimstantial evidence that Dell and IBM will both have Dothan models ready to roll out when Intel makes the May 10 official announcement, so I would imagine all of the major players will follow suit. Also, the 855GME chipset in the S7K already supports it, just needs a BIOS update.
-
So just to clear some things up for me...
The revised s7010 has:
better screen
bluetooth
Dothan?
better keyboard?
better battery life?
The last two points were the primary shortcomings of the original s7010 that were identified by the pcmag article. If someone has any info, I'd appreciate it.
Also, if the keyboard and battery are fine on the current model, does it make any sense to wait for the revised model? Thanks in advance.

The keyboard and battery are fine on the current model and yes, you should wait. The CV screens are terrific and worth the upcharge if there is one. If you decide it's not important though, still wait and pick up an older one on sale.

Hey Brian, any news about the upcoming P1000?
-
Not at the moment...we have a great source though, so I'll poke around and see if I can find anything out.

I'm so glad I read about the "refresh"! I was all set to buy this laptop! Will it be out soon? I'm chomping at the bit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, since the P7000s have been refreshed, any updates on when the S6000 will be refreshed? Still eagerly waiting![

Not at the moment, but not the same animal either...you'll notice very few notebooks have been refreshed with Sonoma, I think INtel may be having low yields at the moment.

How does the new CV screen Brian referred to "300 NIT" stack up against the current CV screen on the S7010?
Thanks,
Terry
S7000 keyboard is actually okay, refresh coming
