Hello. I'm in the market for a new laptop. I've had a couple of laptops over the past 10 years that were pretty much desktop replacements and all from Dell. I was looking at the Fujitsu S7010 or S6231. What's the big difference between the two? I like the fact that they are relatively light (under 4.2lbs). The 7010 is less money than the 6231. Just wondering what I should go for.
Also, can someone just comment on Fujitsu in general? I haven't really heard of Fujitsu before. I can't find any in stores near me (there are no Fry's in my state). They look like they have some solid notebooks. Anyway, if someone can provide any insight on which one I should get, I would appreciate it.

The difference between the two are: the 7010 comes with a 14.1in clear view screen, has the option of a integrated bluetooth reciever and thumbprint scanner. The 6231 comes with a 13.3in clear view screen, and non of the other options. The 7010's base model is cheaper because it has 256MB of memory while the 6231's base model has the 512MB.
Fujitsu is a highly respected company that do in fact manufacture great notebooks/laptops. They are mainly aimed towards the business genre. Their grade of quality is just as good or better as of IBM, and their machines are made/assembled in Japan so it does make it seem more assuring that you are getting a very good quality product then a poorly made product. For myself I'm a very happy Fujitsu customer, hasn't given me any problems since I've had it, and best of all, kick ass battery life [].
Either one of the two would be fine. Its just going to be your preference on if you want the larger screen or not. []

Is there a big weight difference between the two?
How about the difference between 7010 and 7010D ?
What is the maximum resolution for the S6231 CV screen and the max for the 7010 with CV? Just wanted to make sure that they are both 1024x768 internal max resolution. (If so, I think I'd prefer the S6231).
Just want to use the laptop when I go home away from college since I don't want to lug my huge computer everytime (email, surfing, dvd watching, etc).
Don't want to steal the questioning away from the thread opener, but... if you guys were in for a laptop, which one would you open up your wallet for?
Thanks -
The S7010 and S7010D difference is the wireless network card. The S7010 uses a Intel Pro Wireless 2200 B/G while the S7010D uses the Atheros ABG card. Both internal resolutions are 1024x768. S7010/D wiegh 4.3lbs, and the S6231 is 4lbs.
I would opt for the S6231 just the fact it is lighter by a marginal .3lbs, feels a lot more sturdier then the S7010, and it fits on my table juss fine since i got a lot of clutter around it []

is Atheros better or intel wireless card?

Both are about the same, cept the Atheros give you the additional 802.11a setup, and for Intel, it just completes the Centrino Mobile Technology plus you a bit longer battery life. I would prefer either since for myself it would make no difference, unless you have a 802.11a router/AP or an Atheros' chipset in your components then I guess I would go with that.

They're more or less the same. In general, Fujitsu has offered Atheros because they tend to be a few months ahead of Intel to offer wireless protocols. At this point we're even, with Intel and Atheros both offering A/B/G cards. Until N gets approved, there will be very little differentiation.

Did anyone get a S6231 for X-mas? I'm waiting for the rush to settle down so my order will get the TLC it deserves.

Well, just ordered my S6231 with XP Pro and 1.7 Gig Centrino. The only thing I didn't get which I would have liked was the Multiformat writer. But adding that, just went beyond my price range. Anyway, it said the ship date was on 1/5. When I get it I will post back with a review. I hope to enjoy being in the Fujitsu family! [

Leaning toward the S6231 myself also although I'll probably need to wait a little longer and wait on couple more paychecks before I buy it
Last thing, anyone have any experience with getting any linux variants to run without problems on these?
S7010 or S6231?
