Hi I am just wondering before I buy one of these machines if the CV display is worth choosing the S6210 over the bigger S7010. Also any input on which of the two is better. From what I was able to see the two are very similar except when it comes to screen size, but so many seem to favor the S6210...just wondering why before I buy.[]
I would like to order from PortableOne since many posts have given them high marks, but I am in CA and would like to avoid the tax. Does anyone have good experience with a non-CA based seller? (I was looking at Tiger Direct, but they have errors on website and were not plesent when I called them [V])
All the help you guys can give is VERY wanted. From your other post I have desided to go Fujitsu and they are very helpful!
Thank you for you comments!

The reasons I got the S6210 over the S7010 were becuase of price and size. I really dont need a big screen, and the 13.3" works great for me. I like the fact that the S7010 has the eraser head pointing device.
Im not sure if someone owns a S7010 on this site. They would be very helpful on this topic.

I guess the first question I would ask is what are you going to be using it for??
I recently got the S6210 after owning a Sony TR (which is roughly the same dimensions as the 7000 series). My reasons were fairly simple, I loved the Sony XBrite screen but it was a little TOO small for what I needed to do.....view and simply edit large photographic RAW files for storage and future Photoshop work. I didn't want a desktop replacement, all my finish work would be on a PC with calibrated monitor....but I did need something light, fast with a decent size screen.
The S6210 is perfect for me....the screen is ideal for deciding if a photo is a keeper, or not. The processor is fast enough to run simple PS stuff and the decision to go with the 7200rpm HD is one that has already proven to be well worth the value of the upgrade.
The only thing I miss about the Sony is the awesome battery life...and the "cute" factor when you popped it open on your tray table on a plane.
What are your main uses going to be??? -
Rich, he's referring to the S7010, not the P7010, I know, it's confusing.
Anyway, the S6210 is a better machine. Not just because of the screen, but it's just "tighter." By that I mean it's better assembled and feels like a stronger machine. The 13.3" is a big display for an overall package of that size.

I need the power to do my powershop too. If the P-series have the 1.5GHz Pentium-M, I would have jump right in. I can sacrifice an hour off the battery life infavor of 1.5x the CPU power.

Hi Flyboy ~ I recenlty got my S7010D blindly from P1 with decent service. (Got free upgrade to 1.7GHz becoz the shipping delay ^^)
The reason why I choose S7000 over S6000 is becoz:
* The screen is a little bid bigger,
* S7000 is slightly thinner than S6000
* The new Dothan Pentium M CPU with 2MB on die L2 cache
* The ports arrangement are tidier
* Quick Point
I'm quite happy with the S7000 I got and no problems when using it, everything worked as they supposed to. -
I own a S7010D 1.7/512/60. I bought it before the S6210 refresh. At the time is was about the same price as the older S6120 which weighed exactly the same. I figured I was getting a 14 inch screen for the same price.
Both are limited to XGA (1024x768) and have the same workspace but everything will look smaller on the 13.3 inch screen. The 14 inch screen is very comfortable for me an text appears almost the same size as my 21 inch trinitro running 1280x1024. But, I do most of my data entry and content creation on the desktop and mostly refer to it on the laptop so perhaps the smaller 13.3 inch screen would not be a problem.
The new S6210 is a few ounces lighter and overall a bit smaller. When I am working on an airplane traytable I wish I had the smaller S6210. I'm not convinced about the CV screen. The glare seems a problem and I suspect the glass coating is a bit more fragile. The new S6210 has the cool memory card reader missing from the S7010.
If I could trade for the S6210 I probably would.
-
I would have like it much better, if it's 12" laptop.

I'm also a new s7010D owner from P1. I have no complaints. I wanted a slightly bigger screen and the thinner factor was a plus. The eraser head pointer is another plus. It looks great and runs great. To save money I went with the 1.5 instead of the 1.7 Dothan and added 1GB of ram. I would have gone with the S6000 if they had the SXGA. I would have wanted the Crystal brite on this screen but as it is this is good enough for me. Hope it helps.

I don't think you are missing anythig with the 1.5Mhz processor. I got the 1.7mhz because it was the only config with 512meg of ram. It is more than enough power for the office apps I run. You'll probablly notice an increase in battery power before you miss any loss in processing power.

What make you say that, when S7K is still XGA the same as S6K?

Thanks for all your replys, I guess that I will try to go have a look that the S6210 at Frys and see what I think about it in person before I buy it.
I am going to be using the laptop for lab work; mostly typing papers and doing some data calculation and photoshop as well. No gaming on this machine[] but I will maintain a home desktop for that.
Does anyone know a place like P1 (good service and reliable) outside of CA. I know I can check sellers rating online, but just wondering if any other CA residents have looks to save the tax??

Yes, they both only have the XGA but the S6K has Crystal bright. It's brighter and I guess clearer but there is no higher resolution. Most people like it but some don't. I guess it's just a matter or preference.

Gatch, How do you like the screen you your S7010, does it seem bright and does it look nice in the office. I will mostly be using my new laptop at the lab and not really outside too much. Did you choose the S7010 because of the screen?
Run1Track, I did look at newegg and they are in CA as well[V][] but thanks to the suggestion, i have heard good thing about them too
The S7010D is just betterr wireless right??? anyother reason to get it?
-
Got my s6210 at www.euclidcomputers.com. They are in Ohio-- shipping was about $10. They ordered from Fujitsu after I placed the order, though, so it took some time... but you can customize as if ordering from Fujitsu site if you call them. Best part is their Instant Rebates-- mine was $80 off. With shipping, it's $70 cheaper than PortableOne. You won't get PortableOne's free 3 year warranty, though.
They just reshipped it to me the same day they recieved it from Fujitsu. I'm very happy. Plus, NO DEAD PIXELS, baby. -
hey fly, the screen looks really nice but I did not get it because of the screen (I've always perfered a higher resolution and both the S6K and the S7K only go up to 1124X768). However, the screen does look good and is easy to see. The crystal screen on the S6K is said to work better outside. You can see this screen on sony vaio series. You could probably search back through this forum and see a discussion on why some perfer the crystal screen to the standard. The important thing to remember is that there is no change in resolution. I find the S7K screen is just fine for me.

Thanks for the link I will take a look at them and see what they have to offer. From my quick glance it did not look like they had a deal on the S6210
I might just go with P1 since they have such a good reputation.
Aside from the wireless there is no differance between the S7010 and the S7010D...so if b/g will work find there is no reason to invest in it??? -
Yeah the "D" means that the wireless card is not the intel brand. This is not a big deal. It wont be called centrino, but that doesnt matter.

It's a $100 option when you select the upgrades you want. Notice that if you purchase with AMEX, you get a year free, so that's another option.

It does not appear that Fujitsu, Portable One, or anyone selling the S7010D (or any other Fujitsu's) offers any "accidental damage" coverage, other than LCD protection???
Is this the case (that it is not offered)???
Thanks,
Andrew

No, I've never seen it offered. Although, it's come up in several forums that you might want to get some accident coverage from a regular insurance company as they offer better deals will just give you money for with which you can buy a new computer. I haven't checked this out myself but others wrote about it.

Hi guys,
just found this site after searching for a comparison between these two models
My wife and I both needed new laptops so I actually have both the 6210 and 7010. I really like the screen on the 6210 and its easier to use outside, whereas my wife likes the thinner 7010. Both are very good but just wanted to post this so you guys can ask me comparison questions as I have both sidebyside.
I'm also the past owner of the S6120...yes I like fujitsu's -
fireball, if you had to pick one of them as your overall favorite, which would it be? Since you are a fujitsu expert, is there anything special youve learned that you would like to share with fellow fujitsu owners?

911fireball:
Do you have the S7010D model, or an earlier S7010 ???
Does the keyboard have much flex, as has been reported ???
How flexible is the casing around the screen, does anything feel flimsy in any way???
Thanks,
Andrew
Austin, TX -
sorry guys for the late reply,
Run1track:
overall I like the S6210 the best. Althought the 7010's screen size is a plus, I like the size of the 6210 and the screen looks a lot better imo sidebyside, I also have a sony digital camera so the integrated memorystick reader is a bonus. I also find the CV display to create a more "even" backlighting.
the 6210 is pretty much the 6120 upgraded. The scroll button has been updated and overall the design is better. I find wifi connection for the 7010/6210 better than the 6120's. When coming out from standby, the 6120 takes around 15-20secs to recover and find a wireless signal whereas the newer 2 are a lot faster.
the 7010 has more of a "professional" business look. There isn't that blue LED that looks kind of cheesy (unless you like the blue led hehe)I also like the brushed aluminum part at the top where the power button is on the 6210, they did away with that on the 7010 which makes it more black and as I said earlier, professional. The scroll button on both the 7010 and the 6210 are different. I find the 7010 scroll button easier to use, but you get used to the 6210's. What I wouldn't give for a 7010 with a CV display, hopefully fujitsu will get the idea and put them in all notebooks.
aamsel:
I have the 7010 model, not the D. The 6120/6210 are comparable in the amount of "flex" on the keyboard if I know what "flex" you mean. The 7010's keys are somewhat different in that they don't have as much "bounce" to them, if thats what you're talking about
The casing around the screen isn't flimsy at all. The most flimsy one I found was the 6120 which I had previously. It screeched and touched the LCD when you pushed to hard. Both the 6210 and 7010 have very well built casings. -
oops sorry forgot to add the 7010's casing is the most well built. Nothing creaks at all when you squeeze it or anything whereas the 6210 has a slight creak at the screen when you hold it tightly etc.
-
Fireball, this may sound ridiculous, but because you have a digital camera: is there any way you can take two pictures of the computers side by side: one showing their thickness and the other showing their length and width. There is no stores that offer fujitsu where I am and I'm been relegated (?) to drawing out the dimensions on pieces of paper! (yes I obsess about little things!).[:I]
You said your wife enjoys the thinness of the S7, is it that noticeable? Which one "feels" smaller to carry around. (I know the S6 is like .2 lbs lighter, but in reality does this carry over to a lighter notebook, given it's *slightly* thicker body?)
Thanks for offering to help those of us who have yet to make up our minds, its greatly appreciated.

I think the S7010 "feels" smaller to carry around because its thinner, I can BARELY notice the wait difference between the two...and most of the time you're carrying it in your briefcase or laptop bag so its not noticeable at all. -

How many of the S7010D's are coming with the screen defect like was seen on the notebookforum.com thread, where there is backlight leakaga at the bottom???
Was that common or rare???

Well, that's good to hear. The pictures looked like a fairly dramatic defect, and I doubted that this would be Fujitsu's "standard" for that model.

Hi all,
At one point, well yea I wanted to buy the s7000 due to the fact of the 14.1 screen, dual pointing, and bluetooth. But then after reading through mutiple reviews online and in magazines, it made it seem that it wasn't really that good of a laptop. So yea it changed my mind and I went ahead and got the s6210 just because it was small and yet light weight and its a great laptop for just about anything. I did unfortunately had 3 bad pixels within a week, which really got on my nerves, but good thing returned it and got a new one now and looks a lot better then ever. I say the S6210 is better because the fact it looks totally cool with the blue power button []

Hi,
I am trying to decide between these two at work as well.
I really like the S6220, but one thing I can't figure out is the port replicator! The old S6120 and earlier have a full port-replicator that you could mount on your desk, and have your keyboard, mouse, and monitor hooked up to, and you just plop it down and you're all set. The new S6220 and S6210 seem not to have that option. They have a "USB 2.0 Dock", but if you read the specs, it is just like a glorified USB hub, with extra USB ports, serial, parallel, and ethernet. But no VGA/Monitor port!
If you look at the pictures in the users manual of the S62x0, you see on the underneath is a rectangle that looks like the port replicator interface on the older S6000 series. Do you think that they will eventually come out with a port replicator for the S62x0 series? Has anyone heard anything about that?
Thanks! -
