    I have purchased today from Fry's the Fujitsu N6420 @ $1799 + tax.
What made me buy it is the keyboard layout and the dedicated media control buttons. However, after reading some user opinions and reviews, I found out that the battery life is pretty short and the graphic card ATI 1600 is far behind Nvidia's Go7900GS.

Yesterday I was set on Gateway NX860XL and could get it $250 cheaper than N6420, where the Gateway comes with 12 cell battery, Nvidia Go7900GS, 1920x1200 WUXGA screen

What I dont like about Gateway is the keyboard layout which is not as good as the Fujitsu and there is no media control buttons at all, which I use it frequently but can sacrifise it when I have to.

I am looking for opinions on how much in general the Fujitsu is better than Gateway or vice-versa, and whether there is a big performance different between the two and particularly in graphic card.

If you plan on playing games on the notebook, or do anything that will really take advantage of the Go 7900 GS in the Gateway NX860XL, then I would suggesto to go for that. That particular graphics card is about as twice as powerful as the Mobility X1600, and it will last longer.

I'm not sure on build quality, but I believe the Fujitsu will have the better one, and its an advantage. Also, if you are going to use the notebook frequenctly, you will always have to use the keyboard, and if you don't like it, it may put you off the notebook. So, make sure you know you can adjust yourself to the layout of the Gateway.
