While at the fujitsu site i see models like the s7000 and s7000D

    what is the D for?

specs wise i looked at them side by side and couldn't figure it out...

Probably something very simple but i am curious now since I didnt see what the difference was...

D models come with Atheros Wi-Fi card versus Intel's. That's the only difference.

Is one better than the other in terms of range or something?

When paired up with an Atheros Super G compatible router (like Netgear WGT 624), you can get up to 108 Mbps data transfer rate. For Intel's a/b/g card, this would max out at 54 Mbps.

Previous postings also suggested that there were more driver problems with the Intel's card. You can search the forums to find out more.

BTW, the price for the D models are the same. So, it makes sense to order a D model to get the extra speed in case you need it later on.

I've answered this question at least a half a dozen times. It's worth doing a search for Atheros in the Fujitsu forum.

I took everyone's advice and ordered the D; I have another laptop on the same wireless network, but with an Intel wireless, and browsing is much faster with the Atheros card. I do have a super G router.
