Well I just noticed that the E8000 series got refreshed. I have no idea when that happened. Fujitsu's site only lists the correct CPU models on the front page but you cannot customize with them. P1 on the other hand has the new model E8020.
    -CPU up to 2G!
-Default 5400RPM drives! Finally a bold step in the right direction. but none upgradable to 7200RPM for now cause it's SATA.
-Choice of built in gfx or X600 for 100$ extra, but only 64mb, ouch!
-Dual layer DVDRW. Not a shocker there.

People waiting for the new S6, maybe the wait is coming to an end!

The E8020 with the 2.13GHZ has a crazy price tag here in Asia. Its RRP is greater than US$3000.

[:D] No biggie, a year from now we'll be wondering why Longhorn is behind schedule. And given how screen brightness eats up battery power, I'm happy to get the dothan before they got discontinued. I can do without 10% additional processing power and 90% (allegedly) additional graphics speed.

drw, if i were in your shoes i would have actually opted to get the dothan before they went out of stock. the new sonoma adds almost nothing when it comes to performance, while on the down side it decreases bat. life, and generates more heat. The only good thing about the sonoma is the chipset (alviso) i915 because of its improved built in gfx. other than that I find the whole sonoma release just a marketing thing!

Glad to see the E getting updated. I continue to be baffled as to how a comany making such good products can continue being non-promotional. Sheesh.

so when the new sonoma is released, will fujitsu still keep up w/ dothan as a choice? and how about P1?
As you said, I'd prefer the Dothan ... battery is really a consideration to me ... but I'm not be able to buy the S6231 until the end of July as I just bought a Dell 600m ( gotta wait for my acc to be fully "charged" ... lol ).

usually when they (fujitsu and P1) get a new model they just stop selling the older one, or at least until they run out of stock, and that usually happens pretty quickly cause they start decreasing the stock of old units when an upgrade is approaching

Right, the current models will no longer be produced.
