Hi,
does anybody have a T901 yet? I was planning on getting the lenovo x220 tablet for work but now I'm actually more convinced of the Fujitsu.
There aren't any reviews out, at least I can't find any, so any input is appreciated!
Especially interested in:
- build quality
- display viewability (angles & under suboptimal lighting = outside)
- runtime (its predecessor t900 fell short here)
- reviews on the net that I might not know about
-
sorry for triple post but this might actually interest some of you
Some Videos I found on Youtube. The guy is not very concise but he demonstrates some interesting things that I've never seen in action... like
- The Scroll "Wheel" right of the Touchpad
- Scroll-Bar (for tablet mode), lower left corner of the screen
- ....

Randfee,
I'm not sure it's wise pulling the trigger on it now. First, any review conducted in a dark room is not adequate to judge the screen quality.
Second, I've gone over the vid and, while there are lots of positives that I don't list here, I also see several problems with this tablet.
- Bezels are elevated. Even though they have grooves such design is worse for a tablet than the flush bezels of X220T.
- White surface which you call the anti-bacterial keyboard. I have not seen any option that allows me to select a pro-bacterial black keyboard. I don't want any white/cheapo/fingerprint or coffee stain magnet etc stuff on my tablet. This is my biggest pet peeve.
- The keyboard itself is clearly inferior to that on X220T.
- There are no reviews or video demonstrating the outdoor panel. How good is it compared to the multi-touch version? Looks like there is no info yet.
- T901 is about $500 more expensive than X220T.
- Two separate batteries (one in place of the optical drive) for the same battery life are inconvenient to deal with.
- T901 is heavier and larger than X220T. I remember you complaining about extra 2cm on X220T compared to X220.
At the moment T901/outdoor is still superior to X220T/outdoor simply because the latter is still vaporware at the moment. I'll probably give Lenovo a little bit more time before I switch to other tablets. But my patience is running out. -
mine (patience) has run out, sorry.
I see it like this:
- the keyboard on the lenovo might be impossible to beat for fujitsu... fine by me. The Lifebook keyboards were "ok" and that is good enough for me, will be typing on externa one for the most part and in meetings... starting to ink...
- the second battery in place of the drive adds to the first battery, they're being drained at the same time (as I understand it). This would ask for an intelligent charging/drain system to not ruin the batteries... but I am confident they thought of that
- The 2cm of width are fine by me. What I "complained" about with the x220t was mostly the non-fitting slice... I mean... look at that. Looks exactly as if it never was intended to go together. This wouldn't be an issue for me though.
- Altogether, the T901 provides better battery life for the form-factor, idk if you're aware of this, but the obtrusive battery on the x220t is only the 6-cell, not a 9-cell from the x220 (which looks exactly the same from the outside). So the T901 provides 100-110Wh within it's initial dimensions. The X220T extends to all directions.
- I'm not looking into getting the outdoor screen variant of the t901 since the multitouch version is already outdoor usable which has been backed up by many experts I asked. Check out this video of the T900 (exact same display) and it seems just fine, at least that is enough for me
If you compare this to this video of the x220t, then I understand why many experts on the field recommend the Fujitsu multitouch over the x2xxt's.
- The additional price is of no concern for me, it's for work and the research lab pays for it

I have have the T900 and it is a tank of a computer. the screen is very visible even under glare. the screen is a good size for writing. beware of the pen rotating issues (there is a thread about this in the tablet pc user forums). the second battery helps a bit, but if you get an i7 it still eats batteries (though i don't attempt to save power). the keyboard is well sized the organization of the function keys is a bit annoying sometimes. overall it is a nice computer.
T901 - anyone?
