OK. I'm getting close to (finally) making my purchase--I have a few lingering questions:

    1) should I buy from portable one or fujitsu (fujitsu will give my 5% off because I am an "educator"--but portable one seems to have great prices...)

    2) what is the significane of the 7200 rpm (?) vs the 5400. I am mostly reading text (online forums) and putting up simple webpages--may eventually add a little video to my website...I am ALWAYS online and want a lightwieght portable with integrated wireless so I can spend some time working outside of my home office...

    Thanks friends![8)]

If something is tight, it's well put together with few flaws.

    Brian -

Just wanted a bit of clarification - you mentioned that you do not believe the 6210 is better than 7010D, just different, but you then go on to say that the 6210 is tighter and that maybe the 7010D refresh will address the keyboard problem.. Here's where I'm at: I need to buy a machine fairly soon, likely before the refresh comes out, and almost certainly before the refresh becomes available in Canada. Would you still recommend the 7010D (as is) over and above a Tecra M2, even though the M2 specs are better and the 7010D as is has the keyboard/build issues?

Thanks for your patience, hope I'm not being too much of a pain in the a**!

    LOL

    1) Go with the best price, but notice that Pro Portable is throwing in some freebies and the 3-year warranty is much cheaper through them. I have bought from them. Call Ivan if you have any questions, feel free to tell him I told you to call.

    2) It's really not going to make much of a difference. I'd only go for it if you have "extra" money sitting around. An investment in RAM is more worthwhile.

    Good luck!

Lajamer, I've not bought from PortableOne, but in leog.net forum I've read that some dudes were already charge on credit cards and are still waitting for their fujitsu. Maybe if you call "Ivan", as Brian said, maybe it will work better. I've bought from Fujitsu, I did configure it my self and it was pretty fast.
As for the HD, I'd rather go and upgrade RAM as much as I can instead of 7200 RPM, 5400 is enough for your needs. If you have more extra money, I'll buy an extra battery, so you can be free going outside to get online.
    Cheers!

Jeremy, it's really a tough call. The S7010 is a nice machine, whether or not the keyboard bothers you will be a personal decision. I think it's still better built and better supported than the Toshi though. I would propose that you buy the Fujitsu first and return it if you don't like it. Fujitsu offers a 15-day return policy and Laptops Inc a 30-day.

That's a very wise solution. Try Fujitsu and you won't change your mind anymore, as I did![ :)][ :D][8D]

    So disappointed...

I finally saw the S7010D - I had high hopes that the keyboard issue was being blown out of proportion. It wasn't. The keyboard frankly... sucks. This is no exxageration: If someone was to cover the entire machine except for the keyboard with black tape such that all I could see was the keyboard, and asked me what I thought it was, I would very likely guess that it was a Fischer Price toy. The keys wobble around on their pegs, feel bouncy, and feel very cheap...

grr.. I really wanted to like the S7010D but I can't live with that.. looks like I'll be checking out the Tecra or a Thinkpad T...

I remember someone said that Tecra seems too "plasticky" (though I never see it myself) and you hate the fujitsu keyboard look. Guess IBM think pad T Series is above both laptop if you want more conventional look, yet sturdy, also with good performance.

T41 was my first choice before I notice about the killing price..!

Honestly, I do not fancy the keyboard looks, but other things beat that factor and so far, I am satisfied with my Fujitsu S6130. [ :)]

    Good luck,

I buy a S7010D today. It's pretty good. HD is Hitachi DK23FA-40 with very high performance in 4200 rpm family.[ :D]
