Well, I was looking into some really high end notebooks such as HP Compaq 8710w (including blue ray) and Sony Vaio AR61zu, but these are really too expensive (2500-3000 Euro, meaning between 3285-3940 USD). Besides, the laptop is not going to be a desktop replacement, but an add-on for my office with an occasional use of arcitectural and presentation software.

After all, I'm going for the Amilo Xi 2550, specifically the 8009 type. It's 1510 Euro, meaning A LOT cheaper than the HP 8710w or Sony AR61zu ! But it's still about 1980 Dollar, so I'm afraid it's out of your budget. But for that money, you do get a T9300 processor (dual 2 core, 2,5 Ghz), 2Gb RAM, 1Gb turbo mem, 2x250Gb HD, ATI HD2700 graphics, hdmi, WUXGA screen!, DVD-CD writer+blue ray ROM!
For an extra 39 Euro (50 USD) I get 3Gb RAM instead of 2...

There are still cheaper versions of the 2550. I'd look into them. I'd prefer the 2550 anyway. I think it's the top of the line series for FS.

    Hope this is helpful ?
    Cheers,
    Jo D.

PS: all prices are European, they can differ in the US or elsewhere...

Note that Blu-ray drive is the main thing that rises the price. Turbomemory is second to useless. Preferably get as low memory as you can, if it lowers the price significantly and buy two 2gb sticks separately (or one 2gb stick for system with already one 2gb stick in it).
In Germany the cheapest one seems to be 1099 €: http://geizhals.at/deutschland/?cat=nb17&bpmax=&asuch=xi2550&asd=on&pixonoff=off&sort=p
But look for shop specific discounts for even cheaper prices.

joedarch, your system sounds really nice , a huge storage and fast CPU/GPU combo.

but unfortunately, they dont sell it here............any way , I am curious how the HD2700 stacks up against the HD2600?

honestly, this is my first time to hear any company used the GPU.

    ok thank you guys
    any more suggestions?
coz i didn't really get the full idea about the serieses i asked for :(

note: HD 2700 is more powerful than the HD 2600, 8400M GS, GT and the 8600m gs or same performance to it (8600m gs)

    cheers

Well, Xi 2428 is a 15,4" laptop so it automatically drops out, since you wanted a 17".
As for those three left: all of them fullfill requirements you mentioned and the build quality is pretty much the same, the Xa 2528/29 looking a bit more stylish (but that's a personal taste ofcourse). So it all comes to this: go to FSC site, open up data sheets for each of the three models, compare their specs and decide which things are most important to you and which you don't need. There are some differences. Xi 2550 has the best specs.
If you want user experiences and reviews, you can find some here and some all over the net (google).

If you are totally lost what you want, I recommend you fill out the faq.

i did visit their site and downloaded the data sheets days ago
i mean for example: Xa 2528/29, it's not a single model, it has under it several models
    that's what i wanna know

    anyways
the only one ive seen was like only 1gb ram, and 120 gb hdd (not too bad) and a 1.6 amd x2 which sux, besides a good vga which is 8600m gs
and that specific one was for 1100
i dont think and it doesn't make sense to find another fs laptop with something even a bit higher than those spec. for 1100 not less for certain

    thx guys
    ur the best

    No, don't be so ignorant,
the particular model stays the same, but CPU, memory and HDD configuration may change (and also the expensive Blu-Ray option in Xi 2550). The difference between these configurations is of course only performance and price. Otherwise the specs stays the same for the particular model. There's nothing else to it.

However I was referring to actual differences between those three models and you can find them out from their respective datasheets. So again, check the datasheets of Xi 2528, Xi 2550 and Xa 2528/29 models to see these differences so you can decide which model suits best for your needs. For example Xa 2528/2529 doesn't have HDMI connection whereas Xi 2528 and Xi 2550 has.

And in which country do you exactly live? It would be a lot easier to recommend a specific model or even totally different laptop brand if you had told that to begin with. Actually you haven't told much about anything. And that's why I recommended you to fill out the faq. <- Go ahead and do it.

If you live in Europe and you really really want FSC laptop, you can order them cheapest from Germany. The cheapest one there (Xa2528), that easily fullfills your requirements, costs only ~750 € + shipping and has TL-60 2x 2.00GHz processor, 2048MB (2x 1024MB) memory and 320GB (2x 160GB) harddisk space. And again, note that these are the only things that change between cheap and more expensive Xa 2528/29 configurations: CPU, RAM and HDD.
