Basically, I am in the line for a notebook that I need to buy by July of 2006.
:fujitsu:
I am down to the s6000 (s6240) or s7000 (s7020) series. Each has an issue currently that may keep me from buying them and I am hoping between now and by the time I need it, they may have a refresh. My main concern:
1) S7020: Heat and fan noise! :noisyfan:verheat: This laptop is next to perfect for my needs, but I have read too many issues about the system getting unreasonably hot and the fan being noisy (pulsing!) to jump on it. I know this can be avoided by underclocking or messing with the fan settings, but I don't want to HAVE to do that.
2) S6240: XGA, you are kidding me!I'm sorry, there is just no excuse for a laptop to be 1500 bucks and not even have an option for a WXGA or SXGA+. 1024 x 768 might be good enough for casual web surfing and checking emails, but if I'm doing research papers and looking at ebooks/pdfs, 1024x768 is not adequate (I use 1024x768 at work constanty due to vnc issues, and doing anything other than simple work can be a hassle). Oh, and the docking station doesn't have a DVI (I can live without, but still a knock), unlike the s7020 (and just about every other business class notbook docking station).
Ideally, I would love the s6240 series to get wxga (my room mate has the p7000 series with its 10.1" wxga), and I would just get that. Or the 7020 can fix its heat issue. Either is great.
If you know anything or have any comments, please let me know, thanks!

Well, you've thought out the decision well. We know they're going to be updating soon with Core Duo, but the timing and specs of those machines is not yet known. It might be worth holding out if you want that much juice.

And dont forget the screen issues w/ the S7020. Seems like 1/2 the posters get bad screens.

I'm pretty sure they are holdong out the widescreen S series until the new chip. I don't know why anybody would pay a lot of money for anything with the current Intel chips - they wont run Vista. So Fujitsu is probably holding their fire on widescreen until then.
That's what I'm waiting on - wisescreen to replace my 6231. I don't see any point in the current lineup vs what I got. Doesn't need upgrading unless its something with a wide screen. -
I like my S6240 XGA Screen
but widescreen is probably the way to go.

I doubt them going wide screen. It is their business line afterall. Just like the IBM T43 / Lenovo T60, it remained with the standard 4:3. On the 13->14" screens, I still find standard more reasonable
