    Anyone tried this trick?

Love my light and bright 6510- but want to give it a little bump and I already have the t7700, 4gb, and 1 gb of turbo mem; so this is the only upgrade... and I think would double the speed of my 120gb 5400 drive.
    (looking for speeeeed not capacity)
It would also be cooler than a 7200 RPM drive.
Yes forget the cost- I got a great price on the machine so I would be glad to spend the extra for a 128gb SSD.

I assume 2.5" is the right size for the s6510?

You would assume correctly. I've had a SSD, though not in a S6510. I foresee no problems for you. If you're looking for top performance, the Intel drives are worth a look.

Don't forget to turn off the Fujitsu HDD 3D Shock Sensor utility when changing to SSD.

    Thank you both above.

I'm thinking of the SUPER TALENT 2.5" - 128 GB SATA II for $265.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820609333

Or 64GB version for Cheap $142!
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820609332

reviews seem to be very good and found a good price. Not that much more than a 7200 RPM, and much less than the Intels.
Also just wanted to make sure this is compatible, etc.

Some are saying despite smaller capacity 64gb (and Vista Biz) is better because of less 'wear leveling'.

    Oh... and
    1. what about the BIOS? Any adjustment necessary?
    2. How did you reformat from the old - just with a disk recovery/transfer? .. or from scratch..
    Never 're-drived' before.
    May get some help.

I've also never redrived Fujitsu, though done few times with HP/Compaq and Toshiba. Looking at Fujitsu's recovery disc guide, I think it shouldn't been any different from the other. Just put the disc in the optical drive and set the BIOS to boot from it.

About SSD and BIOS, I don't think there is any adjustment necessary, except it might ask to save the new drive configuration at first boot.

    Got this one:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227374

Price has alreay gone up a notch.

Wish me luck on install this weekend.
    Pretty excited.

May also do XP Pro 'Downgrade' (from Vista Biz) at same time as I have discs etc.
Anyone have a preference on the op systems or see improvement or unimprovement after doing it?

Oppss... It just happened that I tried to reinstall my LifeBook S6410 Operating System using the recovery DVD two days ago but the disc won't boot. So I have emailed the technical support and they suggest me to boot to the Windows Recovery Environtment which have been implanted in the hard drive as a separate partition of 1 GB and then in the process it will ask for the recovery disc.

I'll give it a try in the few next day or so...

    Probably a Vertex 60gb.
Not really sure it Can be done.

Anyone else try on 6510 or 6520?

Turned out that I got a bad recovery disc. Actually that disc was sent to me earlier as a replacement to faulty recovery disc as mentioned in Recovery DVD Replacement Exercise. So, I emailed them again, and they sent me another disc which finally worked.

So still NO answer. No one's done it I guess.

The back panel is extremely daunting with different level screws all over the place...and confusing. No idea where the HD is or how to get to it.
Memory panel is clear but everything else is not.
Just a maze of phillips head screws scattered all over the back.

Any illustrations online that show and/or explain how to get in?
Or just start disassembling this thing? Nah.

On HP support, isn't there a manual for it?

    HUH?

    HP is Hewlett Packard.

You're in the FUJITSU computer section.

(and HP doesn't make the SSD either)

Anyone know where there are instructions to to the upgade?

The back is a MESS of many screws (a few at an even deeper set than 7 or 8 others) and apparently whole back must be removed? Mindboggling.

There is no simple access panel except for memory.

    thx

PS: this is where my suggestion for a Regional/Local 'Services Offered' section would come in handy.

I'm not sure if the 6510 and 6520 share the same chassis, but I'd be surprised if it's all that different. There's another recent thread in this subforum where the OP describes which panel to remove, and the location of the HDD underneath the panel (front left side of the L-shaped panel, when the notebook is upside down).

    Yeah,
firstly take out the battery, vent filter

then unscrew the back panel """http://www.nengchai.com/UserFiles/2008-7/14/2008714112636543.jpg"""
    Only

    Slide and remove it

then you can see the hard drive, unscrew the silver bar.
    Slide and take it out.

    Last maybe some more screws

    Put everything back :)

If the hard drive has already been seen, then just slide to loosen it. Unscrewing the silver bar should be done after the hard drive has been taken out.
