    Hey,

I was wondering whether it would be wise to wait and order a laptop after February, when Sonoma Debuts.

Also, any ideas if Fujitsu is going to upgrade their line with this technology anytime soon?

I am in the market for a new laptop and I am really anxious to replace my Inspiron 8200.

Im pretty much debating between Fujitsu (6231), IBM (T42), dell, and possibly a Mac (powerbook)

Fujitsui has the lead as this laptop is for school and its lighter then the rest but equivilent or greater for what I need. (except maby video editing, powerbook has some nice software)
Any ideas or word of upgrades?

    Thanks.

The Alviso update is more immediate and the Fujitsu S should have that in March from what I understand.

What are the improvements with the Alviso chip? also how much of a price decrease so we expect with current dothan chips?

    @ gotcha

Here are my personal reasons for picking the Fujitsu above the others.

the IBM and ibook/powerbooks have really dull screens. IMO they are on par with generic LCDs.

The only Dell i like is the Dell 700M and the S6231is better in every way but price. it is lighter, has longer battery and a better screen. plus it has a full size keyboard.

Alviso supports a 533 FSB and PCI Express. Those are the big things...

So it is really unknown whether Alviso will be taken advantage of by Fujitsu? I understand the upgrades - but will the technology be in the new computers?

So far it seems like no - can anyone contradict this?

    Thanks.

They will use it, just a matter of when. And it is real, we saw several notebooks with it at the CES.

So your guesstimate is that they will use the technology in March?

So i would take it that you would suggest to wait in that case?

Thanks, sorry for pushing this I just really want to make sure its money well spent [8D]

Well, I would probably jump on that NewEgg deal that is about to expire to be honest with you. Aside from that though, I think it makes sense to wait to see how it impacts pricing of the current models. Given the info we're getting from more than one source I feel very confident that Fujitsu will announce new P and S units in Feb and ship in March.

Yeah that New Egg deal does look damned tempting - but I can hold out until February..

Just out of curiosity - what do you do with your 'old' laptops?

my Inspirion 8200 is working fine because of the upgrades i've put in...but I still want the lighter, sleeker etc etc fujitsu.

I don't think it would be worth selling it...probably donate it to family - but anyone have other ideas?
