I just ordered a lifebook T4010 today. It comes with a weight saver and no optical drive. I'd like to buy an Optical drive to work with it but I'm unsure of what is compatible. I may have gotten my thinking twisted a bit, but I thought I read that Optical drives have to have a "caddy" installed onto the laptop before it can receive the drive itself. Now is the caddy likely already present? Do I just need to order the drive and it should slide right in as soon as I find the correct one?

    -Thanks.

I don't know if you can use other's optical drive, but AFAIK, it has locking mechanism which might not be the same with other's. If you order Fujitsu's optical drive for your model, it should slide right in easily and can be removed likewise. Its cover also has the same contour as your notebook's side.
