For the P7010, what exactly is that? I know the optical drive can be removed and the weightsaver installed but is it just some kind of plastic cover that takes up that space if you remove the optical drive kinda like the covers that come shipped in the pcm and cf card slots?

What does it look like exactly?

I removed my optical drive one day for Sh#$s and giggles and didn't find my P to be that much lighter with the optical drive removed so what is the real benefit of the weightsaver?

Yes, it's a plastic insert. You do save a few ounces, but as you noted, the optical drive isn't real heavy. It's more of a marketing benefit.
