Hello and congrats on the effort of everyone in this forum!
I have a strange problem with my Laptop which is a Fujitsu-Siemens 1451g. Currently it has Windows Xp home installed and everything works absolutely fine and the temperatures are in normal levels (47-50 0 C).
I didn’t have a problem with it till I decided to install Windows Vista! Here it is worth it to note that this machine is Vista Capable as it is mentioned in the Fujitsu’s website and as the Vista upgrade advisor showed.

    The problem is as following:

When I tried to install vista the installation was going fine till the point of the final adjudgements where my laptop shut off for no reason (the fan started working really fast and then it shut the whole system off). The installation wasn’t complete so I was prompted to revert back the settings and any changes in the original state which I did. I tried to install them for another 2 times and the same thing happened!

Now everything works fine (in windows XP of course). The problem is when I am trying to get into the BIOS!

When I am getting in the BIOS the fan starts spinning really fast and after 1-2 seconds the laptop shuts off! This happens only when I am going in the BIOS and not in XP.

In windows everything works perfectly fine! I don’t know what to do!

Does anyone have an idea that might be helpful of what It might be the problem!

    Thanks in advance guys

Try a BIOS flash, and update the BIOS. You should be able to do this using the Fujitsu Support webpage. Select your model, and it will give you the latest BIOS to download. When flashing, make sure you understand all of teh intructions and you are comfortable to proceed. If anything does go wrong, which it shouldn't provided you have read the intructions, then the BIOS may corrupt, which will render the notebook useless. Make sure that when flashing, you are on AC power. Hope this helps.

I may be mistaken here but doesn't the 1451g run on a Pentium M? If so Vista will not be very friendly to you. Also, do you have at least 2GB of RAM? If not then again, Vista might not be the best choice.

But let me clarify: There is Vista-capable and then there is Vista PREMIUM capable. Given your problem, if you were installing a premium edition (which according to Fujitsu the M1450 Series is not) then that is the problem. Otherwise, that is just bad luck and what Zero said is the best explanation.

Also, unofficially (just by me heheh) there is Vista-recommended. The Pentium M processor can be good for Vista, but it should be of at least a 2.0 GHz variety. The RAM should be at very least 1.5 GB for smooth multitasking, but no one uses 1.5 so I always round it to an even 2. Both of these components (unless you have a Low Voltage model processor or are still under warranty) are upgradeable for reasonable prices (CPU ~150 bucks, RAM ~100). So no worries if your computer is a little laggy in Vista!
