Is it plastic or some kind of alloy?

Do you own a P7010? I felt it was plastic entirely.

It is a magnesium case. There are plastic doors that hide the firewire, S-video, modem, ethernet, and video connections.

There is no flex at all with the chassis, unlike my Acer which has a bit of flex.

I have a ThinkPad, but have worked on a 7010 and s6231. I almost bought the s6231 before getting the ThinkPad, but I am not a fan of glossy screens and I wanted a higher res screen. I was at Best Buy today looking at some notebooks. All the ones I saw had a lot of flex. It almost seemed like you could snap the Sony T350 right in half. I guess plastics are the future.

The P7010 is made out of plastic - like most other current Fujitsu Models. Some may have magnesium lids, etc - but the chassis' are made out of plastic. Perhaps some of the inner-framework is not plastic, but I am talking about the outer-shell/casings. Yes, there is some flex in the current models I have played with and you will hear a creak or two over time.

I wish Fujitsu still used magnesium like they did in old days when the P1000 and P2000 models where hot. It's a very rigid material and it is lighter - but I am sure more expensive for them. I'd gladly pay more for a more rigid portable.

Ironically, Fujitsu was using magnesium when many other companies were using plastic. Now, more and more makers are using magnesium and or other materials and composites while thankfully ditching plastic.

PortableOne still uses the term 'Magnesium Encasing' in their Fujitsu model descriptions, but I think it's because they copy and paste previous models that did have that over to the newer models. The 'encasing' in plastic.

Bring back the magnesium chassis Fujitsu!

Right, it's the lid that is mag alloy, the bottom is hard plastic with the exception of a few metal parts, like the RAM door. We are seeing more plastic in ultra ports though, like the X41.
