Hi everyone. I have had a S6231 since December 2004 and I love it. My sister's ancient Dell has been giving her problems for the past two years, so she would like to get another laptop. She likes my S6231, so I was looking online for one for her. I was thinking that since the S6240 has come out, the S6231's price would be reduced. I went to PortableOne.com, but they don't have it and Fujitsu only has it in its Outlet Store, but the price is still around $1500. Back in December I purchased mine for about $1500, and now it's still the same price?

Can anyone tell me if the price in the S6231 has decreased, and if so, where can I find a cheap one? I would really appreciate any help. Thanks.

As you noticed, there is no big price drop because fujitsu doesn't keep a lot of stock on hand. hence no need for bargain clearance prices to get rid of old inventory. Newegg is usually pretty cheap, but their return policy is essentially "no returns".

as noah said, with fujitsu there are rarely any clearances (or more like never). But you can try fujitsu's ebay store, you can bid and hope for the best ... they sell brand new and used units on their ebay store

That's right. I remember when I bought my S6231 from Portable One, they took the order, THEN put that though to Fujitsu. So they seem to be working kind of on that Toyota "just in time" philosophy that Dell copied.

That should mean that they would have little or no stock which would need to be dumped.

I think NewEgg had the best prices, but their return policy is crap.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I don't want to purchase such an expensive item on Ebay, and I don't like Newegg becuase of their return policies. Right now we're leaning towards the S6240, which PortableOne has on its website. I have dealt with PortableOne before and I know it will be a pleasant experience again (and even if anything does go wrong, they go out of their way to fix it).

Anyways, can anyone tell me what's the difference between the S6231 and the S6240, besides the color of the lid and keyboard? Thanks.
