I love the Fujitsu's, except I really prefer a wxga screen format. Why has Fujitsu been so slow to provide this in the 13.3 and 14" sizes? Makes no sense to me.

Because they're largely business machines and widescreen isn't standard there...yet.

Besides watching widescreen movies, where is the advantage of a widescreen? Seems like a shorter, wider screen would involve having to do more scrolling up and down when doing word processing and reading web pages. I prefer the non-widescreen aspect ratio, but if there was some sidebar app which I wanted to keep open then I could see a need for the extra width. If sidebar app is the reason, what are the favorites? An instant messaging window or something else? I use sbc yahoo dsl and I tried out the custom browser which has content in a sidebar, but it wasn't compelling enough for me so I uninstalled the browser.

It's not that they are slow, it's simply that they are not gonna.
If I see an IBM with a wide screen then I would expect a Fujitsu with one. Businesses jut don't need that feature.

Actually, IBM is bringing out a 15.4" widescreen model!

Lenovo may be doing that, IBM never would have. It's an important distinction. Lenovo wants to get into more consumer business in the US.

I don't understand why a business /professional would not want a widescreen. All the profesionals I know and quite a few that have posted on this board all have several notebooks. Most of them widescreen. They say that the extra "Realestate" I believe they call it ,makes a huge difference to them. I'm sold on Fujitsu for a 17" model coming out but I'm looking for a smaller widescreen backup notebook and I guess it doesn't have to be a widescreen for the reason I need it. It would be nice though. Back to a reason why they don't bother for professionals from what I've heard I don't fully agree. I guess it depends on your business. The medical sales people or people in the medical field I see always seem to have an IBM but not a widescreen. What for? They don't need it. So I understand to a point. It would be a nice option from some good manufacturers like IBM,Fujitsu to offer.

I vote for the WS, heck if you're spending the bucks to get a LT get as much screen estate as you can, both my rigs are WS and I love using them both. [8D]

OK,
Maybe you guys / gals with platinum status fly first class most of the time, but us road warriars in coach have a ridiculous time with space constraints. A WS is a huge form factor improvement for those of us who frequently have to literally angle the laptop screen at a 70% closed angle to even work from our plan seat.
So for me, a 100% business user, the WS offer me huge benefits while on airplans, and I'm on them 50 weeks out of the year. I work/fly out of Raleigh / Durham, so my flights are on regional jets (small and no first class) and/or a different airline each time depending on my destination, so I rarely accumulate enough miles to achieve anything resembling platinum status on any airline :-(

What's so wrong with IBM or other manufacturers offering at least 2 models WS? The seating on Planes are small in general but you can't tell me like the Dell 700M wouldn't be perfect and It's a widescreen. The companies like IBM would have more business ,no doubt and people want quality like IBM offers in WS. Professionals in certain fields need it and prefer it. [

I like wide screen simply because I want as much screen s[ace as possible, and I like the fact that being significantly shorter means that I can open the screen on a coach seat tray table while I travel by plane.

Err..you revived an almost three year old thread to tell us THAT?

You guys realize that you get LESS total real estate on a WS monitor right? Check the surface area of a 14.1 vs a 14.1 WS (or any size for that matter). The push to WS is mostly driven by consumer who think WS is better, and my LCD manufactures. Its takes less raw materials to make a xx WS compared to a xx standard ratio monitor, and consumers think they are better, that drives up the profit margins (or allows them to break even).
And yeah I am posting in the 3 year old thread now too -

Why does Fujitsu have such an aversion to WXGA?
