There is supposed to be a refresh of this series this March. However nothing has come yet. I know that when I talked to Ivan about the new line of Portable One computers, presumedly with sonoma, he said they were waiting on Intel and expected to have the refreshes out by April/May. There has been rumor that maybe Intel has been having low yield as of late, and maybe Fujitsu is also waiting on Intel.

I think this is the case. Initially it wqas supposed to be March, but I suspect it will be May before they ship.

I am planning on buying the S6231 for my laptop when I go to law school in the fall. Hopefully I will be able to reap the benefits of the price cuts scheduled for this Summer by Intel.

Soo...will there be one? Does anybody know anything about the alleged refresh? I don't believe anybody actually answered the question...

I guess my big question would center around whether there might be a SXGA screen available. Probably too much to ask for . . .

    asdfeproiu,

There will be a refresh. When is what is in question and we can only speculate at that right now. I was guessing around late April to early May and Brian seemed to agree.

    deltav700,

I doubt that the refresh will offer an SXGA screen just due to the screen's size.

To echo Doleco's post, no one really *needs* the refresh, but we all seem to want the lastest and greatest...or the latest anyway. As for SXGA, I think there's no chance in getting it with CV, but 50/50 on offering a standard display in that res. I have no inside information on this, just my personal speculation.

I was in the same situtation as many of you waiting when I read about the refresh. Here is my thoughts on waiting. Determine your needs first. If you really want the latest technology wait as long as you can, if you do not really need the laptop immediately. However, keep in mind if you wait too long, then what is to stop you from waiting until dual core or whatever else comes to the horizon.

I needed a notebook sooner than later, so I bought one and decided to skip on Sonoma, then I'll probably pick up Yonah.

Either way, whenever you buy, hopefully you will be as happy with your purchase as I was.

I've reached the end of my patience. Will probably create a p1 account tonight and place an order.

Well, I just placed my order at P1 and feel good about it. Perhaps the existing dothan will give me a little more battery life. I also emailed Ivan to ask him to peek at whoever does the 7k60 harddrive upgrade to make sure there are no dead pixels.

I started my search in october last year and am glad the search is over. The S6231 is the clear winner for me with the right compination of power, small size, long battery life, and outdoor viewable screen. Every other laptop would have some disqualifying feature. Now I'm going to sams to look at an external usb2 harddrive for regular backups.

Congratulations. You won't be disappointed with your purchase. I gave it much thought also and I'm very happy with what I got.

I'm already thinking about upgrade path. While I may skip sonoma and go from dothan to yonah, could it be possible that the current S6xxx accessories will be compatible up through yonah? I realize no one will know this, but what's your best guess?

Fujitsu doesn't change case design until they have to. So the odds are with you unless they make a drastic change in display or something.

Do you think the refresh will use the second generation CV screens as in the n3510? I compared those two models at Fry's yesterday and I noticed the n3510's screen was brighter and more vivid than the s6231.

It should have at least a marginally better display, my new P7 is better than the one year older one.

One other question about the possible refresh, do you think a widescreen version will be added? Maybe like the size of the Sony s360 series, 13.3?

    Thanks

Not likely, but if they did...would be a killer machine.

I have been debating whether or not to get the S6231. The one and only reason holding me back is the touchpad. Apparently, this model uses the ALPS touchpads, which are known to be inferior to the Synaptics touchpads. Does anybody care to comment on the S6231 touchpad and whether this should be my deciding factor?
