    Problem:
When I play CS 1.6, HL2 and CS Source through STEAM I get lag several times per minute and it is really annoying. In 1.6 I mostly get it when you get these announcements like "5 min left" and other voice commends. So I thought that the lag was related to the driver for the sound card? I am currently using WDM_R171 and WDM_A400.

I have now tried different drivers and different settings in STEAM in order to fix the problem, but nothing helps. Yesterday I did a re-install of windows, but that didn't help either.
Have also tried with different network settings in CS so that should not be the problem. Ping is fine.
I am not running with RAID.

    Other drivers installed:

    Catalyst Mobility 7.7
    Intel Chipset software installer 1.1.9.0

Any suggestions? Any body else with this problem?

    Thx

So nobody with a xi1546 has got these lagg issues in cs 1.6 and source? I have tried re-install of both windows and STEAM, but nothing helps. It is every time the server and players comes up with these sound commands like "5 min left" .. "enemy spottet" .. "need backup" that I get lagg.

Any suggestions? Do not think it is a problem with STEAM and my settings.

By lag do you mean you get an fps drop or is the lag caused by high latency?

Well... I haven't experienced any audio lag, but I have an ever-present keyboard lag. Any keyboard. Regular USB, the notebook keyboard, bluetooth diNovo by Logitech, even saitek eclipse II (Gaming keyboard). It's impossible to play anything that relies on the keyboard(= most games, except RTS)... I tried NFS Carbon, but i didn't even manage the first course. anyone of you having similar problems? 'Cause it's "driving" me crazy...

Don't think I get a FPS drop or a suddently high latency. Will have to do some testing this weekend.

lederlappen, I was browsing fsc's drivers pages today, and I found this HDD caching fix on FSC's vista drivers site for xi1546. I presumed that you run XP, but I've seen some retailers sell it with Vista as well. In case you actually do run vista, check fujitsu-siemens' driver site for that os.

The patch is under vista/application - service patch

Thx, but I do run WinXP :)

Just remembered that I have tried to make a local game (Both CS 1.6 and Source) and there I also got the lag when I made voice commands. But it seems I am the only one with this problem?

Perhaps this is stupid, but I think I will try and buy an external audigy card and connect it to my laptop. (Onboard soundcard disablet and drivers removed) and see if that helps anything. If it does it must be related to the onboard soundcard (Software and/or hardware) and the ony solution I can see is to sell my laptop and by another one. Crap ;)

So am I really the only one with this problem?

It is a hardware related problem. If I start a cs 1.6 or source server, then I will get a short lagg each time a sound is played. Like "cover me" and so on.
I have just reinstalled windows and put my HD drives in RAID0, but that doesn't help.

    Any ideas?

Thx for the input. In cs 1.6 it's quite annoying. I have also thought of buying an external sound card, but now I'm not willing to do that.

I think I will try and disable the soundcard and see if that helps. Otherwise I will have to buy a new laptop, which isn't too bad an idea ;) but I really hate to sell my old hardware.

So I have now found the reason. When I deactivate the soundcard the lagging is no longer there. Also notised that with sound enabled I would get about 940fps and with audio disabled (Hardware) I get about 1150fps.
Now I will try and disable different drivers and see if that helps.

I have a Dell XPS M1330 with almost top hardware installed (T9300 2.5Ghz CPU, 4GB ram, 250GB HDD, LED display, Geforce 8400GS 128MB, dell 1505 wirelessN and bluetooth) running Vista.

After experiencing frequent game lag on the OEM install (1-2 second freezes every 20-30 seconds) I reinstalled Vista using latest drivers and SP1. I can play Warcraft3 almost perfectly now but in COD4 I'm experiencing some game lag, while the FPS stays 60fps. This is similar with what I had before just less frequent (freezes 1-2 seconds once every few minutes) and with more smaller scale lags.

I'm assuming, after reading forums, that Vista has an input problem that affects both keyboard AND mouse. I can tell for a fact that the keyboard input lags both in games, wordpad, firefox, renaming files, EVERYWHERE. I've read somewhere that this might be related to the PS/2 drivers in Vista. That got me thinking what if the mouse is somehow affected too, even if I'm using a USB mouse. This would explain the game lag while at 60fps...

Another explanation would be the CPU lagging behind the Video card (if that's possible) and stopping the game even if the Video card is up to the task. It's pretty clear that everyone has CPU spikes all the time in Vista.

I'm trying to explain somehow why the game sais it's running 60fps while I'm getting a very sluggish and jumpy experience.

This forum section is dedicated to Fujitsu laptops and this particular thread is for Fujitsu Xi 1546 laptop's lag issues. You propably get better answers to your problems in the Dell or Gaming sections, but I'll try to help as best as I can:

Did you install correct drivers for your chipset and harddrive controller?

Check that in Control Panel -> Device Manager -> Disk Drives under the policies tab 'Optimize for maximum performance', 'Enable Write Caching on the Disk' and 'Enabled Advanced Performance' are all set for each HDD in your system. Also check that under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers -> for Serial ATA Controller all checkboxes are ticked.
Also, have you defragmented your drives?
