Thanks mate, you seem pritty good a sniffing out the deals
-
DDR2 667MHz 200pin
thats the best deal I can find currently makes it about £132 for 2gb -
Will 667MHZ memory make a noticible difference in applications? I always thought that 533 MHZ, gave enough bandwidth to the processor.
-
to be honest it wont make a great deal of difference but it will make some difference and you can get it for about the same price as if you were getting 533MHz ram so why not get it and have a slight performance bonus too!
hopefully mine will arive today though theres not actually anyone home to collect it so will probably have to go to the depotif not then I will have it tomorrow to play with
-
Thanks for that info, Phoney. I hear you've got a Xi1546. Does your laptop lag at all, in any applications, and if so, how severe are they. I want to buy one of these, but i don't want to buy it, when it has the possibility of a lag issue, like the Amilo MX438G.
-
havent got it yet it should be delivered today!
from what i hear having spoken to someone else who has one of these it does not suffer from the lag problem.
It is the same model laptop as the alienware m5750 so i doubt they would sell it with known issues, doubt that fujitsu would be stupid enough to sell another line of laptops with the fault as they would just get taken to court by someone for it.
Will post once ive got mine and played with it for a while to see what it is like -
Does anyone know what is the display response time of Xi 1546? Therefore how suitable it is for games that use fast moving graphics, for example, like car games?
Is the DVD drive of slot-in or regular type? (Slot-in drives are cool.) What brand is the drive?
What cooling solution is used in Xi 1546 and how hot does it get if you play demanding games like Oblivion for hours? Is there any room for overclocking?
How many partitions are used for harddrives? Do they use NTFS? (Oh, propably stupid questions..) -
On the overclocking issue, read this sticky . http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=50029&page=14
the graphics card looks pritty strong. -
Xi 1546 seems to have two same sized HDD:s.
Can I set hardware based RAID 1 on Xi 1546 even though it has everything (Windows etc. ) preinstalled. Or do I lose all that stuff if I set it. How is it done? -
Anyone know of a website that ships this nb to U.S.?
-
Have a look at this site in the UK,it does say they will ship ouside the UK so maybe worth a try. http://s84957758.oneandoneshop.co.uk/sess/utn;jsessionid=1544a3962b2b377/shopdata/index.shopscript

First of all sorry for my crappy languages.
So i have my :fujitsu:xi1546 (Centrino duo T2300) for about 1 week now and it's pretty cool.
It has 2 x 60Gb witch can be set up in a raid(mirroring or .....)
The :glossy:screen is excelent for playing games! And the :ati:x1800 seems to have no problems at all to run the most hardcore 3d rending games. A negative point like somebody set up in his review is that the palm areas getting hot!
About the cooling idl it's about 53°c for the cpu and running in games it is getting up to 67°c.
Battery hooks up for 1.5 houres with the wirless on.
Handy things : You can set the fan in silent mode to watch a dvd or something and the wireless part can be turned off with a hardware button in the front of the laptop also the touchpad can be turned off with a hardware button!
Any questions? Just ask
bye -
Seems like undervolting is essential for this notebook, atleast if you are going to do some heavy gaming.. also any software that could boost the fans a bit or even make them run at max wouldn't propably hurt..
How hot does your harddrive (-s) get? -
I've instaled notebook hardware controle and i can't see the temprature of my hard disk's :s
The cpu is running with a 0.950V for normal internet surfing ,mails etc and is now 56°c! It is running in dynamic mode.
Is this temp. to hot for a notebook like this with a room temp. of 28°c?
And do you know a software program to get the fan running on a max. speed?Does anyone know of the coolermaster 3fan notepal would help cooling the notebook?
EDIT: I just installed speed fan and i have a 46°c for HD0.
greetings -
Notepal would help. Those 3fan versions of notepal will work like any other but they are released in november. There are also many other options: Targus, Vantec, Spire...
Your room is about as hot as mine.. 1546's Operational temp is 5-35c, so it's not too hot, but offcourse it affects the heat.
I will post my results once I get mine. Propably some day next week.. -
Cool! I hope you will get yours very soon it's a cool notebook after all.
I'm from belgium and the only shop i found for a laptopcooler with delivery in Belgium hasn't got the Collermaster 3 fan in stock.
Do you know a program man. adjust the fan speed?
I already look at the bios buth i couldn't find an option there, also Notebook hardware controle don't gave me that option

1Gb mem / fsb on 533Mhz
Ati x1800 256Mb with [email protected] and mem@486Mhz -
I don't know any other than the Speed fan and the NHC. There's the I8KfanGUI for Dell notebooks, but I don't know if it works for other brands.. Here's a good post about temperatures: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=66196&page=3&highlight=cooling
Oblivion just came through mail..heh, can't run it with my 5 year old desktop. Xi 1546 will be an epic improvement over this piece of ****.. Offcourse, when it arrives I will be using few days to tweak it to the max performance and lowest temperature. Some good guides: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3005&guide=cooling+your+notebook
http://www.tweakguides.com/TGTC.html -
I'm a noob in tweaking so. When you have your xi and you have it in optimal setting would you be able to post me the setup?
-
Finally got my Xi 1546...Unfortunately it doesn't boot.
Ofcourse my reseller agreed to exchange the notebook to a new one, if they can't repair this one. But I have to wait another week for it. This is so frustrating... Waiting..depressed.
I hope it's worth it..
-
It's worth it! Still it's frustating to wait another week!
I'm still looking for a shop in be with 17" laptop coolers ==> Hard to find -
Is it good idea to put the harddisks into Raid? Doesn't it produce more heat with only marginal performance boost? That's not good because there's no dedicated cooling for harddisks..
My configuration will also have two 100GB hard drives, but I'm not so sure about the Raid.. Also the XP disk that comes with the package is not a full XP. Therefore I can't format the hard drives for the Raid, if I'm not going to get the full XP disk somewhere first. It's propably not possible to use the Raid without formatting the hard drives first? ?
About those coolers.. There's no good coolers for 17" notebooks here in Finland either. I will propably use two books in both sides under the notebook, raising the backside so that the air circulates better. The notebook coolers do the same thing but they also include fans.
Would anyone know how well F.E.A.R. or Oblivion runs in this notebook? Near Max settings? Both of them and Razer Copperhead mouse are waiting on my table for the new laptop to arrive... -
Owkeey,
I formated my xi1546 with the recover cd and set up the hd's in raid (splising for speed) and reinstalled windows xp with the recover cd so it is possible to have a full format => instal xp. Don't forget you will get a very easy to us one-click-instal-all-drivers. Ah your right you have to format to set up the raid (i had to).
About the raid it gives you some speed when you load and read out your disks. (installing loading in games etc). You have a via hardware raid utility on board so why don't you use it?
About gaming hehe no problems @ all just installed blitzkrieg 2 (stupid game) in full details , Civilization 4 in full details etc. Gaming is no problem with this baby. -
The link that Ryke sent to the insight site for the 100gb version (101100-013) is in fact the 200gb http://uk.insight.com/apps/productpresentation/index.php?product_id=FJSYA04U28 it is just that the decription says 100gb. If you click the specification it describes it as 100gb + second drive 100gb.
I have ordered the 101100-13 also for €1,367 + vat and can collect about 8km from here in Dublin. I intend using raid setup with the 2 HDs. I want to use raid for speed not backup. Is that called raid 0 or splising. I used raid 5 on my terastation (1 terrabyte) and it effectlively reduces capacity to about 700GB, but if one drive was to be completely destroyed, the other 3 would have retained the information contained on it. It is a lot more efficent than miroring (raid 1?)(that would reduce it to 500Gb).
Anyway backup is not important for me on the Xi1546, so it seems that splising or raid 0 (i thought it was striping) suits me fine. I actually thought that this would be the most common use of these 2 drives in the Xi1546, but it is not formatted as such. Anyway I will do a complete re-install with the recovery disc as described by Arista. Roncotus, could you not do that?
I also ordered an Si1520 for my GF with 512mb.
I am pretty sure that i can put the 1gb (2 x 512mbs) of ram from the xi1546 into the si1520 and put two new 1gb 667 sticks in the Xi1546.
Any thoughts on this. will it be compatable? -
Yeah, sure, if I just got the d*mn machine. Now I have waited for two weeks for the replacement to arrive. The availebility of the Xi 1546 in Finland is so fu*king bad. The reseller has no clue about when they are going to get new shipment.. I almost would like to get the money back and order from Germany.
So you are absolutely sure that you can do the FULL installation with the recovery disc? Why is it named a "recovery disc" if it's actually a full Windows XP? I thought it contains only the most important system files of the Windows XP for recovery purposes but lacks the functionality of the full XP.
Isn't the warranty voided when you upgrade memory? ... I read somewhere that 667MHz is supported by Xi 1546 and why shouldn't it. Just try to search the forums.. Still, IMHO the marginal speed boost gain (if any?) from 667MHz memory is not worth the extra cost, but if you can afford it, why not. The amount of memory is more important, so the upgrade to 2Gt is a way to go.
How was the harddrives initially partitioned? If they both use only one partition then that's fine. I like to have pagefile and Windows in different drive because it boosts up performance especially in games that use virtual memory a lot (Oblivion). I wouldn't care so much about RAID.. -
The Hd's are when you start up the notebook for the first time are conf. as just a buch of hd's so you have 2hd's in your computer and no raid option.
I formated the notebook installed with the recovery cd Windows xp and set up the raid (via raid tool) in the bios. (Not sure what i've done first the raid or the install of xp).
You're still waiting for the xi?? That is realy sick. -
So, did anybody installed 2GB 667MHz memory? What is the difference from stock 1GB 533? And where is the rwyke's review?
-
Oh my god how the Bios sucks in this machine. There's absolutely nothing to tune..
Hopefully everything still works ok.. Would it help if I flashed it? The Bios seems to be version 1.09 in my Xi 1546 and there is v.1.15 available at fujitsu pages. But nothing there tells that it improves anything in the Bios, merely fixes some minor issues. And of course there's always a risk so I probably leave it as it is.. D*mn it's Bad.. Phoenix Bios or somethng.
-
I have just installed 2gb of memory. As far as I know it does not void your warranty. Had an Amilo a1667g which I sold to buy the xi1546. I upgraded the 512mb to 1gb, sent it back as had a faulty dvd drive some 7 months into my warranty and they changed the drive without a worry.
I have just this mionute installed 2gb of 667mhz DDR2, booted first time. Bought the memory off Ebay for £120 plus about £3 postage.
Its PQI not the best brand but will give it a good run out later today.
Funny thing is when I upgraded my last laptop I used kingston or crucial, cant remember which. When the new memory was installed it didnt boot the first few times.
This stuff booted first time. I emailed the seller ( Has a 2000 odd positive feedback ) Told him my model number etc and asked him if 667 was ok if not send the slower stuff.
Turned up this morning as DDR667 and seems to work a treat. -
On the RAID option, If you look further up in the post a chap emailed me to say it was possible to RAID it without reformatting using the VIA RAID TOOL.
I was impatient and just reformatted. Provided you enter the VIA RAID Bios and create a striped array using your 2 drives first then your recovery cd will do the rest.
The correct drivers are already on the recovery cd for the RAID Set Up, Fancy pressing F6 and inserting a floppy? lmao -
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Laptop-Desktop-Memory-Store
£120 plus postage for 2gb of DDR667
Sent special delivery. 8000 positive feedback. You just email him details of your laptop including model number and processor and ask for 667 -
2se4m0nkey:
I'm not so good in installing software, so:
Why you needed the recovery cd? What is on it? Is it possible just create raid through VIA RAID Bios and then install W XP using usual Windows installation cd? -
Essentially the same thing, by recovery cd I mean the xp disk. The fujitsu xp disk has the sata raid drivers on it. I presume these have been added to the driver cab file on the xp disk. Dead easy to reinstall just set the raid in bios, boot from the supplied xp disk and your off.

Hey boys. New to the whole forum thing. but here goes. I have an amilo xi1546.
Not a bad machine. Anyway down to the issues.
Anyone else have a hissing in the right speaker when things are muted. Read it also on the german amilo site.
I ran cpu-z and it says the memory frequency is 266 Mhz?? i would think it should be somewhere in the 533Mhz area???
other than that things are good, except DOD:S freezes in game after 25 mins or so.
Anyway anyone have any questions? answers?
jimmy -
Have you tried other system information tools for the memoty frequency. Can't remember their names.. Check this guide: http://www.tweakguides.com/TGTC.html
The site has also many other useful guides for system and specific game optimization.. -
266 its a physical frequency, and because it is a DDR memory (no matter DDR or DDR2) the physical frequency is multiplied by 2, so 266*2 = 532 (~533). So cpu-z showed you correct frequency just in not-DDR view. 667MHz = 333MHz*2. As you may now Intel uses FSB with frequency 533MHz,667Mhz on notebooks (with later merom that will be 800MHz) and in desktops 800MHz, 1066 MHz. But it is again just multiplied physical frequncy, and here we have miltiplier 4, because of QuadPumpedBus (something like internal name of FSB). In this case 800MHz = 200MHz(physical)*4, 1066MHz = 266MHz*4.

thanks! makes sense, i suspected it was something like that!
p.s. i love prague! -
Hello,
Just skipped through the whole thread, and seems like people arn't really getting any problems with this notebook.
For me it a choice between the Hewlett Packard NX8430 and the Xi 1546.
I mean there is over 1000 3d Mark05 points between them, which should make a lot of difference in gaming.
My questions is, would it make much difference between the x1800 and x1600, if anyone knows any gaming benchmarks that would be great. Like CSS, BF2, FEAR results or something like that because as we've said there is no reviews anywhere.
Thanks -
anyone know where i can get one of these in the UK, been looking for one but everywhere i can find is out of stock, please help.
also how easy is it to upgrade the ram?
Cheers
JOHNNY -
My F.E.A.R. settings: FSAA 2x, Soft Shadows Off, Anisotropic 8x, Texture Resolution Medium and finally my screen resolution is set to 1280x768. Everything else is at their maximum and the game runs very smooth. There's only lags when you come across saving checkpoint because the harddrives are not so fast. I don't use RAID 0, so i'm not sure if that would help. I couldn't get the game work with Texture Resolution at Maximum. There were strange graphical anomalies and textures missing at some places..
I have also tried Oblivion, but I have not tweaked it yet. It seemed to run well with almost everything at the max. The settings were autodetected by the game and it said they are Ultra High end. I will post my settings and results when I have had time to tweak it.. -
Im pretty satisfied with my xi1546 aswell, tho I have one huge problem with mine, and im shipping it back to fujitsu cause it seems to be a BIOS or CMOS problem... Else its running great and yet I havent meet any game it couldnt handle... Oblivion runs nice at 1280*800 at maximum settings tho with distances below 50% of max... Indoor around 40 fps, in the forest around 20-30 fps
-
yeah the gaiming on the xi1546 is great! no problem. But i think its also wise to realise that if you take an x1800 you have to get a 17" notebook and extra weight too. But if the sole purpose is to game then you have to go with the 1800 over the 1600 right?
-
Jimmyme: Well, asfar as I know, the X1600 do farly well in most of todays games, but yes, if you buy it as a DTR, I would go for the x1800 as I have done... And for me the extra weight aint that much of a downside, cause I wount have to move it that much it will be any problem, else im strong enough to handle thoes 8 pounds
Btw, now Ive solved the gaming problem I had, where the arrowkeys locked up while having 2 of em down at the same time, there is a new(from 3/8-06) bios
at fujitsu's hp for download that solves the problem -
...In what games do you use those thin little and to me almost unusable arrow keys? I think they suck in this keyboard. I prefer W, A, S and D keys.. Well, everybody likes different things..
Oh, my god how beautiful the Oblivion looks.. I heavily modded it's willderness graphics (trees, water, landscape etc.) and now it looks absolutely stunning. Sun is shining outside but I prefer it more in Oblivion.. -
What do you people see in your "Device Manager" in tab "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers"? I have following three:
Primary IDE-channel
Intel 82801G (ICH7 Family) Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 27DF
Intel 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller
I was just wondering, because I have two 100GB SATA-harddrives ( Not RAID) why aren't following two also seen:
Primary SATA-channel
Secondary SATA-channel
There would be some useful performance settings in those if they were available, e.g. transfer speed, which should be set to 150MB/s in both.. I downloaded the newest chipset and SATA drivers directly from Intel: http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-022034.htm
I wasn't sure if the Matrix Storage Manager was needed, but I also installed it anyway. Just wondering if these things are correct and do they have something to do with Oblivion crashing all the time. Other games and apps work just fine.. -
Greetings all.
I am interested in buying the Xi 1546, however i enjoy playing world of warcraft which ofcourse runs from the harddrives. My big draw back is the speed of the harddrives provided, is there no way i can upgrade the harddrives to 7200rpm?
Or alternativly, if anyone could name a BETTER laptop for around £1200 then that would be nice
Regards
[edit]
http://www.tickpc.co.uk/products.asp?viewItem=30943
this is the one i would buy...
[edit 2]
I would be using an emu1606 i think its called laptop sound card, is this easy to install on the xi 1546 -
ronkotus: im using the numpad which also made the problem, in cargames like need for speed
And im seeing the same as you in the "Device Manager"
-
I can't really think of any other notebook with as much power as this, except the Dell XPS M1710. For the base version it costs around 1200, but thats without any 7200 rpm drives.
In response to Ronkotus, i also see the same as you, under "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers". I can offer an explanation. As these are controllers, i think they wil simply show induvidual controllers for the SATA and IDE. And since the notebook only supports one IDE (I think), it won't show anything more than that. -
Does anyone know how to program the quick launch buttons on the xi 1546?
And does anyone else play any Steam games? I have to run most in dx 8.1 cause they seem to hangs often in dx 9.
Im running the latest cats.....any ideas?? -
Does anyone have problems with sound level. Built-In repros are silent, but in headphones it is silent too. I've setted all on maximum but still have very silent sound level. Whatit can be? Drivers?
-
No problems with the sound here.. Do you have the latest Realtek drivers? Also make sure you have the latest DirectX 9 (updated recently) and sound hw acceleration set to max.
