My S6231 arrived yesterday from PortableOne -- total elapsed time (inculding an FDA hold in Kentucky) to get from Osaka to PortableOne to me: six days. Still haven't had much time to play with it but it appears to be quite nice. The 1GB memory module I bought from newegg went in in under two minutes and was recognized with no problem. 13.3" screen, 60GB 7200rpm hard drive and 1.5GB RAM -- should be just the ticket for me to Photoshop while on photography tours . . . Oh, and it weighed in at 4lb 2oz on my kitchen scale [ :D]. No SXGA, no Compact Flash slot, slightly larger than I wanted, but I got the best notebook I could have within my budget constraints. I still think about the P-series occasionally but a similarly configured P7010D would have been about $600 more and, quite frankly, the keyboard would have been too small for me to use comfortably.

Thanks for all your help folks.

Ya fujitsu should share with us a percentage of their increase in sales [ :D]. What better advertisement than satisfied customers!

Brian, we still have a long way to go before we get our cult to the size of the competition. [ :p] That's why I am going to get another Fujitsu as soon as intel introduce their new summer pricing. That way I'll count as 2 [ :)].

Well what I find nice at my univ every year they offer a couple of models to professors to upgrade their laptops (one of which is always apple). And begining of last fall it was fujitsu S6/S7 for new professors coming in or old ones renewing. So in short my university is part of the cult [ :p] (other pc notebooks available on campus are dell and IBM)

DeltaV, congrats on your purchase, hope you are still enjoying it. I returned a 14" widescreen Gateway and ordered the 6231 from P1. From the time you got your "Approved Status" email from P1, how long did it take to get your notebook?

My credit card was charged on the day I ordered -- 4/11/2005. On 4/16, I was notified that order status was changed to "Shipping". I checked the status and saw that it was shipped from Japan to PortableOne on 4/15 (note that Japan is almost a whole day ahead, timewise). On 4/19 it arrived at PortableOne after being held up, according to UPS's site, for the better part of one business day by the FDA for some reason. Later that day it was shipped out to me via FedEx 2-Day service. I received it on 4/21/2005 (signature required, so I had to wander down to the FedEx office to pick it up). I've had a chance to play with it now and I can say that the 7200rpm hard drive is worth every penny. Speed improvement over my Dell (same processor) is very noticeable.

I've had my S6231 for almost 2 months now, I use it almost daily and I absolutely love it. I've pretty much exposed it to all the conditions it would normally be subjected to as far as processing demands, programs, etc. and I'm pleased to say that I can't find any faults with it. It's running XP Pro with a 40GB 5400 HDD and 1GB RAM. I added the modular bay extended battery and now I'm able to run it for about 6-7 hours with the brightness setting at about 5 to 6 with the Wifi continuously on. It's an awesome little machine and it runs complete circles around the Dells I've owned in the past. I see on the Dell forums how people keep complaining about their products and the horrendous Dell service. But rest assured people, THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE TO A DELL! A couple of my friends have commented that my Fujitsu costs more than a comparable Dell. My response is "a Mercedes Benz costs more than a Ford too."

If a Dell made a 3.63lb, 8 hour battery life notebook with a crystal view screen, 7200rpm harddrive, supermultidvdburner, full size keyboard, solid casing, then I would consider it, but according to my research, they don't so we're comparing apples to oranges, and it makes no sense to say "your orange cost more than my apple".

Your right kirby. too bad spec sheets don't show the quality and service that you buy along with any product. Or maybe with some products spec sheets should show the headache that you'll get dealing with customer service.

I have yet to see a Fujitsu buyer regret his buy, sure ocassionally some one gets a bad apple (happened to me twice!) but in the end you'll be happy, I sure am [ :)].

You made your point David and your point is well made. To clarify, I was making a comparison about the two manufacturers, not making an "apples to apples" claim about one specific computer versus another. I didn't realize that I needed to be so precise. I do promise to be more careful next time. Lighten up please.

So, I guess I'll jump on the Fujitsu bandwagon now. Just got my 6231 from P1 the other day. Only got a 40Gig 5400 Rpm HD, and 512 Memory for right now. Have been enjoying the lappy. Have brightness turned down around 3 notches, and with wireless on average around 3.25-3.5hrs.

Was dropping wireless connection like a bad habit, with Linksys Router. Downloaded latest Intel drivers for wireless card and on a/c power connection seems to be better. Will see what happens when I go to battery. I'm trying to convince a buddy looking for a 10.6 to go with Fujitsu and not Sony. He was playing around with my lappy today and was impressed with it, so he may go that route.

Has NEbody had problems with the scroll rocker, seems like it may wear out, or get loose after a while.

The wireless automatically reduces transmission power when on battery. you can change the setting. Look for it, I am not familiar with intel's software to tell exactly where it is.

I don't use my scroller, so no clue!

Concerning your friend. Isn't the sony way more expensive! or have their prices gone down recently? I'm gonna be getting a P7 in the summer. I want to have the biggest and smallest beasts that Fujitsu has to offer. I bet they are gonna look funny next to each others. Cannot wait! [ :D]

Congrats on your new lappy, and Welcome to the cult! [ ;)]

Thanks for the info Qwester, yeah, the Sony is about $400+ more configured the same, and no modular bay, fingerprint scanner, etc. I gave him the link to the boards so he can see how satisfied people are with their Fujitsu's.

Drw, my Linksys is a WRT54G Ver.2, with Ver.3 firmware. From what I have read about people having probs with the 2200 cards, looks like most have the Linksys routers. Maybe time for a change??
