I currently have a ca. 2 year old E7010. So far the hinges where the screen attaches to the main body needed replacement, the plug where you plug in the A/C adapter was lose on the mainboard (mainboard replaced) and the keyboard was also replaced. All done at a local service center quickly and without problems. So far everything was covered under the 3 year warranty. It's being used daily and I'm currently also thinking about getting the N6010. Can't wait to run Half Life 2 on it.

Fujitsu is at the top of the list for quality and support. You can't do any better.

Do you know what is the return policy of Fujitsu if you order online? (any stocking fees, etc...) Also, the online website only has a 100GB 4200RPM harddrive option, but I have heard people saying they are swapping it for 7200RPM. Does it really make a difference? And is it easy to swap harddrives for a pretty novice user without risking damaging the computer.

I am between this and the Compaq X6000. There are no other information available for Compaq's X6000 though. Does anyone know th possible release day for the X6000? I'm getting pretty annoyed at using my old laptop now.

The drive upgrade makes a big difference and isn't that hard, though if you can get it done at the time of purchase from someone like www/portableone.com, that's easier. Fujitsu has a 15 day return policy, no fees. P1's is 30 days.

I checked portableone's website and the only 7200RPM option they had was the 7K60 60GB harddrive. Do you have to call them up personally to have them change it to something like 100GB 7200RPM? Thanks so much!

oh, I had no idea they didn't have such a thing yet. I'm not too kept up with computers. Just been learning a lot doing research. And no, the big drive is not for porn [xx(] I just want to get a good computer to start out with so I don't have to upgrade for a good while.

Gilo, That response is NOT in the spirit of how we try to help people around here. Please be more considerate next time. An apology to Betty might not be a bad idea.

Betty, I think 60GB is the largest 7200RPM hard drive for notebooks at the moment. I believe there are larger sizes for 5400RPM drives, if you really want a bigger hard drive.

Gilo, sorry if I seem to have over-reacted. The capital NOT may have been over-board. I didn't think you meant to offend anyone. However, intent doesn't make a crude comment less offensive. It's apparent from Betty's post that she didn't appreciate your joke, although she recognized it as such. That's why I suggested you apologize.

As for the N6000 you could talk to the folks at portable one to see if they have shipped any yet, or when they expect to.

a note on HDDs for laptops.
Unlike desktop HDDs, 7200RPM isn't that much faster than 5400RPM. (Speaking in percentage gain in each case) (But there is quite a large differnce between 4200RPM and 5400RPM tho!)
So if space is required a 5400RPM isn't a bad investment, unless you intend to drag an external HDD around if you need the space.

On a second note larger HDDs tend to be a bit slower (I think in seek times. Correct me if I am wrong!). But the best thing to do no matter how large your HDD is, is not to use large partitions to avoid defraging, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep the system partition just for that, i.e. do your file storgae on a separate partition.

I know this has nothing to do with the N6000, but I thought it was worth mentioning since the topic came up.

Looking forward to 10,000RPM Raptors on laptops [ :p] (It aint too farfetched)

The N6000 looks incredible. However, I wonder why they didn't go with a mobile Athlon64?

I have 2 Fujitsus, a C2110 which is 3 or 4 years old and still rocks, and a S2000, which is in 200 pieces right now. My wife dropped the laptop off the bed (she fell asleep and the computer was on her lap) which knocked the AC port off the mobo. I'm repairing that today.

I can't say enough about Fujitsu. The next laptop I buy will be either the N6000 or the AMD64 widescreen put out b www.fujitsusiemens.com.
