    Hi artanelli,

I was lucky and got my hands on a Si2636. I wrote a review. Here it is.

Review of the Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Si2636
    written by Max Schalk

I just got my hands on a new Fujitsu Siemens notebook. It is the Amilo Si2636. It’s a 13.3 inch widescreen ultra portable system. I’m using a HP Pavilion 15 inch right now and wanted to have a smaller and lighter one to carry it with me. But the performance was also an important criterion. Because of the fact I’m working at a distributor, I had the luck to get one of those machines before it gets to the resellers.

    The specs:

    - Screen: 13.3 inch WXGA (1280x800) glare
    - Processor: Intel Core2Duo T7500 (2.2 GHz)
    - Hard Drive: 250 GB HDD (SATA, 5400 RPM)
    - Memory: 2 GB RAM
    - Turbomemory: 1 GB Intel Turbomemory
    - WLAN: Intel 4965 WLAN N
    - Graphics: Intel X3100 GMA (384 MB shared)
    - Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium

    Reasons for buying:

As I said before, a 15 inch is too big and heavy to carry it around. And at the moment I do need a system which doesn’t weigh much and which is small, but not too small and offers enough performance.

    Where did I purchase:
The distributor I’m working for, will have it available within the next days.

    Build & Design:

The design is quite nice. The glossy black cover and the red stripe around the case look very good to me. The surface on the inside feels good and the round touchpad with the metal mouse buttons look nice and have a good pressure point. The screen isn’t moving when you try to “twist” it. The only thing that isn’t very nice is that you’ll see your fingerprint on the cover. The weight is 2.3 kg with 6-cell battery.

    Screen:
The screen is, as I said, a 13.3 inch WXGA. This, for me, is the perfect size. It’s also very bright. You can still see things, even if the sun shines on it. Although it is a glare display.

    Processor:

The 2.2 GHz Intel Core2Duo works good and has enough power for nearly everything I want to do. Like using it as my multimedia central, a bit of gaming and normal work and surfing.

    Benchmarks:

I didn’t have time to do any benchmark tests on it, up till now. We’re stuck in the Christmas businnes right now. If there’s time, I will do some.

    Heat and Noise:
While doing normal work, the fan is not running but the system stays cool. In multimedia usage the fan is running, but isn’t very loud. I didn’t do gaming on it.

    Keyboard and Touchpad:

The keyboard has no flex, the touchpad is working properly. But because of the round form you have to get used to it, which takes some time.

    Interfaces:

3x USB 2.0, eSATA, HDMI, LAN, WLAN, Bluetooth, Headphone / Microphone jacks, 4-in-1 card reader, Firewire and express card slot.

This is nice! I do need HDMI to connect the thing to my projector! And eSATA is quite hard to find in a 13 incher.

    Wireless:
WLAN N standard is a good thing, if you have a router that supports it. I don’t have one. Unfortunately there’s no WWAN built-in, which would be a nice feature to go online in the park or while sitting in the train.

    Battery:
Windows Vista says the battery will last 311 minutes. With no big usage. That’s definitely enough for me.

    Operating System:

Windows Vista is preinstalled. What should I say about Vista? It is Vista.

    Customer Support:
I didn’t need the support up till now.

    Conclusion:
For me it’s the perfect size, the right weight and definitely a beautiful design. The performance is good and up to date. Interfaces are quite good and enough of them.

    Pros:
    Cons:
    - Design - Fingerprints on the cover
    - HDMI - No WWAN
    - eSATA - No Blu-ray or HD-DVD drive
    - Turbomemory
    - Weight
    - Battery run time
    - Webcam with 1.3 Mpix

    I also found a review now: http://www.notebookjournal.de/tests/402/1

It's in german, so here is a translated summary:

    + high speeds in applications
    + bright display
    + HDMI + eSATA
    - bad Touchpad-Keys
    - noisy, annoying fan

I guess i probably won't be able to buy it because of the noisy fan :-(

Would be nice if you could comment again on fan noise and the touchpad keys, Max. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have a LED backlight, otherwise they would have prominently mentioned it. Not much LED backlight choice at the moment... Is there ANY 13,3" LED powered Laptop apart from the new Macbook Air ?

Hey look what I found on official siemens web:
    Face-to-face
With its integrated webcam, this notebook is for comfortable video telephony - without additional accessories. Your partner's image will appear clear and sharp on your display. BrilliantView technology enables wider viewing angles and is backlit with LEDs for exceptional brightness.

so i think it should have LED backlight....
