should i wait for the new S6000 sonoma series supposedly coming out in march? will the price of the s6231 go down? what big physical change will happen to the new model? could it be a wide screen? or should i just go ahead and get the s6231 now? too bad i missed the $1339 of newegg. i hope they have it on sale again this weekend.

just buy it now. the price of the new model will be very high i bet, and it prolly will take a while to release even tho they set a date alrdy.

also, if you notice, the previous S6000 models like the S6210 and 6220 are not that much cheaper expect on newegg where it was 250 cheaper.

I just ordered one, if you wait, i can give you a really detailed review, i am very picky. I got a Dell2001FP for papers and spreadsheets and a NEC 2111FE for games. justs shows i like nice displays alot

I really had my heart set for the fujitsu S6231 but I just bought the Dell 700m because of Dell's $500 off deal today. I got a 1.8 ghz, 60gb hd, 512mb ram, 8x dvd burner for only $1,197 + 49 shipping and i also get $150 mail-in rebate. what a deal!!! I know the fujitsu's screen is better and it's much thinner but for this price and with these specs Dell beats the fujitsu hands down.

What? Where?? Did I miss something? Where did you get $500 off and a $150 mail in rebate from?? What a deal. Even though Dell laptop is flimsy..their built qualtiy, but it is an awesome deal! Wish Fujitsu would come out with something like that, that would be a miracle. lol. If you look the one day deal thread, you would see that the awesome deal is still there as I mentioned.

As for me, I have my eye set for the new S6000, that would be one awesome and powerful machine, a machine that won't need much upgrade even in 2-3 year spand.

There will not be huge changes, in fact the shell should be more or less identical.

I think I'll wait. Although new Sonoma platform will have the same battery usage as current chip lineup, you will get Intel's new wireless chip set and double graphics performance.

    I'd still want a S6231 compared to a 700M because:

    1) Early December (I think), Dell had a $750 off of the 700Ms and people were lucky enough to buy them for like $750 total. If dell brought that deal back and allowed me the 700M for $750, I'd definitely be getting it.

    2) 700M has horrible reviews for battery life (2 hours) and this is definitely something I won't be able to utilize. The S6231 expected 4 hours of power is way better for my needs.

    --------------

Also, isn't the 700M thinner than the S6231? I had this image that the 700M was considerably smaller than the S6231 (not only because of the 12.1" screen size of the 700m).

    Oh also, a question -

Since the Sonoma (Alviso) will be so powerful, will that consume the battery life faster? I read the front page and it said they will use the same battery but WILL it be faster consumed??

    1. $500 off plus $150 rebate equals to a savings of $650 just a $100 off from the awesome $750 deal so not bad at all imho. :)

    2. I know the battery life is bad but you could always get a second 8 cell battery for an add'l $159 thus extending your totally battery life to about 6 hrs. or get it from ebay for only $84. And still save a lot more.

    3. Thickness: Fujitsu s6231 - 1.34" Dell 700m - 1.5" not much diff plus Dell has a wide screen

For those who missed out, the MIR was taken off around 8 am, ie. you could not combine the $500 with the MIB unless you ordered *very* early (but they hit you for shipping then). Of course you also couldn't combine the 15% immediate rebate. Bottom line: this offer saved you about $200 overall compared to now, not $500... Something almost as good or better should come along again soon b/c sales aren't good.

The deal was made in October for $750 off selected Dell notebooks. That's why eBay is full of them (8600s, 700Ms, 600s) with an October, 2004 warranty transfer date. Many eBay vendors took advantage of the very short sale and are now turning them on eBay for a couple hundred over what they paid. I've bought two 8600s for very decent prices. Regards, Ace [8D]

Only in price, my friend. I've owned many Dells. I now own an S6231 and love it. As an eBay vendor once remarked to me when I asked him to come down a little on his price on a Fujitsu, "Sorry, but a Dell is not a Fujitsu." Enjoy your new notebook. I'm sure it will do a fine job for you. Regards, Ace [8D]
