Hi guys, I am a new member here. I am considering to buy S6231. As you guys know Newegg is selling it for $1230 after instant rebate and P1 is selling it for $1459 with 3yr warranty. I know many people here recommend P1, but is Newegg really terrible to give up $130? BTW, I will pay it with my americanexpress card to cover an additional warranty. Thank you very much.

Portable One will offer you the chance to do some upgrades most notably the hard drive. Fujitsu can be picky about user upgrades. You may want to look at this:

NewEgg has a crap return policy and won't support you with things like a dead pixel check before they ship it. For me, service and support is more important than saving a few bucks.

In my case, I got my P7010 from Newegg.com because I didn't need those additions and my budget was around $1500. Back then, the price difference was almost $200 between P1 and Newegg. Mine had no problem at all and I used the American Express card so that I wouldn't worry too much about Newegg's return policy or additional warranty if something happaned. But you have to deal with AE anyway.

From what I read through a couple of forums, one thing I don't like P1 is that their shipment delays all the time. It may take up to 3 weeks to get your laptop from the time you place the order. That was another reason I didn't go with P1.

I did have uncomfortable experience with P1 even though I acted like a gentleman and didn't complain to them. I ordered a 256mb memory for my P7010, but they sent me the wrong one. That's ok, though. People do make mistakes. It was obvious a wrong one because the length of the memory they sent to me was .25" shorter than the one already in the slot of my P7010 (of course, shorter than the size of the slot). Apparantly, it wouldn't fit in the slot.

I had to call them twice to get the problem fixed. Why did I call them twice rather than once to get the problem fixed? Because they didn't even think they made a mistake. I spent at least 10 minutes for the second call to get this simple problem resolved. I made myself very clear about two points: The length of the memory is shorter than it should be and the model of my laptop is P7010. That guy asked a few questions which I think were very stupid. For example, he asked me where I got my laptop and the part code on the receipt. He asked me to read at the bottom of my laptop some stickers that indicated the model and other numbers as well (I really had no idea about what number he wanted). Where I got my laptop had nothing to do with the wrong memory they sent to me. And he actually could get the part code I ordered when he was pulling out my file and would know that this memory was definitely for P7010.

After responding to lots of questions he asked, I realized that he actually assumed:
    1) that they wouldn't make a mistake,
    2) that I had no knowledge about the model of my laptop and had provided him with wrong information, and/or
    3) that I placed the wrong order.

I couldn't convince myself from the two phone calls that P1's CSRs were knowledgeable about what they were doing. And they were showing me arrogant attitudes because they are being acclaimed by people in these forums. One may not know if a memory is 256mb or 512 mb from its appearance, but one would not be wrong about dimemsions of the memory when trying to insert it into the slot. Finally, someone beside him provided some clues for him to resolve the problem. He probably didn't know that P5000 and P7000 used different types of memory. He then promised me to send out a correct one that day.

They didn't offer me tracking information for the shipment and I had to call them back to request for the number around the time they were supposed to be calling it a day for the weekend.

This is just my experience with them. They might have had good service in some way (e.g., quick responses to email and phone calls) and for some people. Unfortunately, I was disappointed.

It's worldwide from what I understand, but you might want to call support or use their online chat just to verify that.

Thank you all, I appreciate that. I have one more question though. Does fujitsu warranty cover worldwide or just in the U.S.?

I went with P1. Another very happy/satisfied customer. There have been a handful of people that didn't have a good experience with P1, but they seem to be a definite minority. Search for earlier threads and you will see the odds are in your favor.

    Look at it this way:
you might have headaches w/ P1, but in the end, they will make it right. Ivan is da MAN!

you will pay less and get machine fastser with newegg, but if there is anything wrong with it, you can count on them telling you to take restocking fee (~$200) and get a refund or go call fujitsu.

Fujitsu's warranty is international - which, combined with Portable One's reputation, is swinging me in the direction of a Fujitsu laptop. Somewhere on this Forum, there should be a straight-out list of which laptops have international warranties (and the respective additional costs, if applicable). For many notebook users, a machine without global service is a potential handicap; most notebooks were bulit to travel, and that insurance is as neccesary as an international health insurance policy.

The only negative I had with P1 is that it took almost 3 weeks for me to get my laptop. I never quite understood what the delay was. That was disappointing, but they were very cordial to deal with and answered all my quesitons promptly which is a huge plus for me.

I do think Newegg has much better prices and I've never had any shipment delays from them, but I'm not very familiar with their customer support and return policies.

do not go with newegg unless u know how to fix laptop problems yourself. i have a post up about my horrible experience and wished i paid more money and went with P1. if theres a problem with your laptop you better hope it shows up when the computer is left on idle otherwise they won't look any further for the problem and make you take your laptop back.

Sorry, it is $1324 as Qwester said. They also have S7010D at $1249 (256mb though).

    qwester,

I went to these links and the difference is 30.00. It is a better option in my opinion. You put more 80.00 and buy after a 512mg, without throwing 256 away. 768mg is a good machine.
I would buy this one if I had not made a huge mistake of buying the last 6210 from New Egg one month ago. I bought one they and the next day they dropped the price off 6231. Oh gosh! That is life.
    Thanks for the link.
