after reading about people's experiences with p1, I'm almost set on purchasing the s6231 from them. however, I do have one question: does p1 charge sales tax? I thought I remembered reading somewhere in the forum that they don't.. or maybe it's because I live in california?

    appreciate the feedback!

    thanks,
    eugene

CA residents are the only ones taxed. If you have someone out of the state to ship to then you can get away with it. But note that you would need to list that address with your Credit Card company because P1 wont ship to an address not listed!

I thought so. hmmm.. do you think I should just go ahead with p1 and pay the tax or should I find a different place to make the purchase? I remember someone saying, it's not always about getting the best price but the best deal..

P1 is in CA so no sales tax for me in TX. Free shipping as well.

I asked about the dead pixels and requested they check it out before shipping. Ivan was more than willing and said they would replace the screen if there were any dead pixels.

Still awaiting the unit, but I paid sales tax in CA because I live there, but decided it would be better than going through New Egg and facing issues.

I'll give you my quick thought about P1. I just received my N6010 from them last week. I live in Sacramento which is very close to San Jose where they ship from. I only have one thing negative to say about P1 and that’s how they communicate. I placed my order with them online and did most of my communicating with them through email and one time over the phone. The thing I didn’t like is they definitely don’t give you a professional business feel when you talk to them. When I called their number the sales person said “Hello!” and not “Portable One, how can I help you today?” I felt as if I was talking to someone from a household. Plus their email responses were very short often neglecting to answer my original questions I had for them. Due to their lack of response I had to email back and forth with them more than I should have had to. That said this was the only negative. Every other experience I had with them was superb. I consider myself a high maintenance customer and they were quick and willing to respond to all my questions. Their web site is great because it gives you the opportunity to check the status of your order any time. If you make upgrades to your notebook you can see online the shipment status to Portable One and then to you (if you make an upgrade). The turnaround time for my notebook to reach Portable One and then to me was less than two weeks which includes my personal upgrades. Portable One only had my notebook for half a day before completing my upgrades and then shipping to me. When it’s all said and done I was very impressed by Portable Ones service and would definitely buy another computer through them. By the way you do have to MAKE A REQUEST to check for dead pixels and they will gladly do so. Ivan is a good person to contact at Portable One if you wish to ask questions.

so how do you request for the dead pixel checking? is it via their website or the fone? I'd prefer the to do some extra steps because I don't like to ship the laptop back and forth for something I could prevent from the beginning ....

P1 has been very helpful, they reply to my email no later than a day (every time I wake up, I get a reply from them)..much better than some others to whom I will not mention.

Their phone service is great and they are rather kind and helpful..

but right now I'm on my 5th day waiting and they haven't updated the status on their site.. i called them and they weren't too sure what is going to happen..either Fujitsu will do the config and send directly to me or it will go to P1.. I guess it's because I chose the newest model Fujitsu they have..

just wanted to let y'all know that I finally placed my order this morning from P1! within 2 minutes, I got a call from victor letting me know he received my order. he told me that they're currently out of stock with the 40GB 5400rpm, but he reassured me that I should be receiving the laptop in two weeks. I also made the request to check for dead pixels and he said to just send an email to them. nice.

    and so, the wait begins...

I feel pretty good about the purchase, but I just want to know that this laptop was worth every penny!! it is, right??? can't go wrong with fujitsu...?

I re-analyzed my purchase over and over and kept coming back to the same conclusion: the 6231 is perfect for me. No buyers remorse, not even a stray thought.

I loaded it with Office 2003, Paperport 10, Microsoft Streets and Trips 2005. As soon as a model comes out with Longhorn (next version of XP) preloaded, I will probably buy it and then this one will be my "backup machine" in maybe 1.5 years or when is longhorn supposed to come out?
