Cracked LCD's are normally not covered. Did you do something that you know of to break it? As for repair cost, I'd email Portable One. They'll be cheaper than Fujitsu I'm sure.

I would send it to P1 for replacement IF you used it a lot and it still easily meets your needs, especially if it would be a long time to get the cash for a new machine. Otherwise save up for a new machine and see if you can sell this one for parts. Keep in mind that while the 6240 has sonoma, I don't think it got substantially faster and I think the battery life got a little worse. I don't think you would gain a lot by going with the newer model. Brian will correct me if I'm wrong :)

Yeah, screens don't usually break themselves, except in that other thread. People had screens breaking for no apparent reason. Maybe yours did the same?

i mean i was thinking of getting a compaq v2000 for like $500 with a celeron M cuz this way its cheaper than a new screen and i get a new computer. im too scared now to get an expensive laptop. this one took me half a yr to pay off because im a poor ass student. what would you guys do? replace the screen for $500-800 or get a new laptop ?

If you only have the 500-600 to spend, I would fix the one you have, because I am not aware of any laptop you can buy at that price which will outperform the one you have.

Yeah, the Compaq will be a dissappointment if you have a Fujitsu, they're not the best laptops.

How much are they charging to fix the screen?

Also, if the crack isn't affecting your use, and is not exposing anything or causing any flex issues, I'd just live with it. Saves money.

You can always buy the screen from somewhere else and let Fujitsu install it (if that's possible) ....

I know Toshiba makes the LCD for the N3510. Maybe you can find a Toshiba LCD that would fit your laptop.
