so far i like the p5020d. (learning to live with a dead pixel in a bad spot) i've been going back and forth between a full size ergo keyboard and this laptop and its a strain, both ways. i believe i asked about this before, anyone using a small bluetooth mouse with their laptop? i will ultimately need one for CAD programs.

dvd to hd.
i used DVD Decrypter to make an ISO file on the hd. ended up with a 6gig file in about 20 minutes.
i used Daemon Tools to make a virtual drive and then mounted the file.
started InterVideo WinDVD4 and it didn't seem to know the difference.
i'm sure this is no news to some of you, but just being able to rip a few dvds before a trip and using the bay for an extra battery is very convenient.

ok... im starting to think this isn't a dead pixel.
i have what i believe to be a dead or defective pixel. its a black spot that is always black. AND it is not the same color black as when the screen is off. i can actually see the spot when its powered off.
the other odd thing is that when i'm looking at the screen perpendicular to its surface i can see this spot, like over some text. BUT when i change my viewing angle, it moves away from its original location.
the way i noticed this was i moved a window with some text in it so that the dot was in the center of the letter o. then i changed my viewing angle and it moved away or outside the o. its as if the spot is located above the other pixels.
does this sound like a dead pixel to you?
thanks. -
I've had dead pixels before but have never been able to see them when the unit was powered off. Can you take a picture?

take a look at these.
perpendicular to screen
at angle to screen

ok, i guess the html didn't work, so cut and paste:
www.momeara.com/view1.jpg
www.momeara.com/view2.jpg
it doesn't even look like the shape or size of the other pixels, in the straight on view you can see it just covering the upstroke of the 'd' and then it moves to the center. -
Yeah, that doesn't look good. It would probably bug me enough to call support.

i suppose the smallest black dot that is visable in photohop would be the size of a pixel. this is much bigger. guess i have to say goodby to my notebook for a few weeks.
----------------------------------------
now that i'm a notebook user i have to say that emulation is the only way to go. storing a few dvds on the hard drive is nice, but other data based programs like ms streets/trips is AWSOME running at hard drive access speeds.

That does look odd. Could it be some weird dust particle underneath the screen cover? Looks too perfectly round to be a dust particle. Must be a physical flaw in or on the screen itself. If it bugs you now, it'll bug you later. Get it fixed ASAP!

very simple way to see if it is a dead pixel or something with the screen
Use the screen magnifyer
Accessories>accessability>magnifier.
Then take the pointer to the spot where the spot is if it is a dea pixel you will see it in the manified section.
