The 7010 keyboard is mushy on the right side and the keys make a lot of noise on the right side as well. Not much to do about the mushy part because the hollow area below where the dvd is but the key noise is a design problem with a simple fix.
What is happening is the bottom of the keyboard is hitting against a metal plate below it. You can see this when you push down on the keys and if you take a small flathead screwdriver and push down between the keys you can hold the two metal pieces together and prevent the metal on metal clacking sound from occurring.
Seems stupid to crack open a brand new $1800 but laptop but if you are willing a few pieces of very thin double sided foam tape placed under the keyboard will fix the problem. It's not to hard getting at it just remove all the screws from underneath and there are 3 silver screws where the dvd slides in the need to be removed. Carefully pry up from the front, there are 2 clips one right over the wireless switch and one opposite it once they snap open itÂ’s easy to lift up the right corner and get under the keyboard.
What bothers me the most is pcmag reviewed and criticized the keyboard and Fujitsu said it was fixed and the complaint was unfounded. Well it not acceptable that only the right side of the keyboard make a loud clacking noise that could be fixed with 5 cents worth of tape.

that's just really disappointing to hear that Fujitsu did not address the keyboard issue properly or possibly even lied in saying that they had and it's just inexcusable to have a product on the market that people pay around $2000 for and that needs to be fixed in any manner right out of the box. It's definitely not a feel good procedure to have to pry open a laptop and shove tape in.
shame on Fujitsu for this one. -
Hi,
I was trying to fix mine...but i couldn't lift up the upper left hand side corner. how did you do it?
Thanks

I never tried to take it all the way appart. You can pull it up enough to get to the lower right hand side under the arrow keys where the problem is the worse.
If it is under warranty (which it must be) take it to a local fujitsu service center. The one I went to aggreed a keyboard replacement would not fix it and suggested the would use tape to secure it. They offered to do it and would charge Fujitsu for their labor. Apparently this type of problem is not unique and they have used this technique before.
I still have a bad taste for this laptop because of the keyboard problem. What makes me mad is it was reported here that Fujitsu had fixed the keyboard problems indicated in the pcmag review were fixed and the problem they reported was UNFOUNDED. From what I see this was a lie to cover up the problem that still exist. -
Packrat,
Lemme ask: Is this the original S7010 the updated S7010D ? Apparently the S7010D had several such issues addressed...

The D just has a Broadcom wireless card instead of Intel.

It is a S7010D I purchased 2 weeks ago from newegg.com. It is the same model number currently on the Fujitsu website. There is still no updated model available yet.
If there was a fix it wasn't a very good one. Parts of the keyboard are great and other sections are lousy. If it were lousy all over it would be one thing but all the keys should react and make the same sound as all the other keys but it is not that way.

Right, they've updated the S6000 but not the 7 yet. The 6 still doesn't have Dothan yet either, but that will change as Fujitsu sells through their stock of older PMs.

Fujitsu had a dotham S7010D on their site for a few days with coming soon instead of the price, then pulled it off. I'm guessing they need to dupm more old inventory before the show the dothan.
In any case the dothan does very little own it's own but does bring some higher clock speeds down the road.
fix for 7010 keyboard
