    The XP CD probably lacks the SATA drivers. I'm not super familiar with Fujitsus. There might be an option in BIOS to run the SATA controller in compatibility mode. Otherwise you can slipstream the SATA drivers into the XP CD using nLite.

    Would lack of sata drivers cause a crash? I thought XP would just not continue with the install with a message of 'setup did not find any hard drisk blah blah'.

    Though, speaking of slipstreaming, make sure that the XP disk has SP3 on it. If it does not, sliptstream it on(google for guide).

    @OP,

    I would check the hdd with a diagnostic tool(check your hdd's manufacturer page or here ) and ram(with a program like memtest-google for links).

    There should be an option in BIOS switching SATA from AHCI to Legacy IDE mode. Try it.

    Ultimate Boot CD - Overview Ultimate BootCD has them all in one package. Including memtest86+. It's the simplest way and the CD is usable in other computer later too.

    Believe or not, actually telling the error code on the bluescreen would be useful ;) Because at least one of the bluescreen errors is "no hard drive" but it could be faulty memory or read/write errors on disc or anything else.
