Hi, I was planning to upgrade the harddrive of the S6210 I got three years ago. But when I open the bay after untightening two screws, i could not see how this drive can be detached. Anybody can offer some help? I want to make sure I can detach it before I order a new one.
thanks!
My model is S6210, and the harddrive is 40G 5400rpm.

1. Are you able to take and post a photo of the HDD in the S6210? Does it slide away from the connector?
2. If it is 3 years old then it is most likely PATA / IDE as opposed to SATA, but we can check this if you can post the model number as reported by Device Manager.

Hi john, it is a PATA version. I have attached two photos (big). I don't see where I can slide it out.

Hi,
I have the same laptop as you (and I have always loved it). Maybe I am not understanding right, but it is very easy to remove the harddrive. If I remember correctly, just carfully ply off the top orange looking part from the main computer and remove the drive with the orange looking part attached to the harddrive(together) [or it may be the other way around... either way, just be careful it comes off nicely]. There is a aluminum (I think its aluminum) jacket around the harddrive that also comes off, as shown in your pic around the HD. -
hi duchesne, thank you for the reply.ac
I did not try to peel off the orange part. Is it connected to somewhere? I looked at the hard drive sold at newegg, no such things! Is it the temperature sensor?
I would appreciate if you can give me a little more instructions on how to peel off the orange part? if you use my picture, did you do it from the top side or the left side? -
Hi,
So I decided to remove it myself to refresh my memory. The proper way to remove the HD is to first ply off (gently) the orange part from the computer. That is, on your picture the top side. It is very easy to remove, just carefully put a fingernail or other underneath the edge where the holes are on the orange part. I am not sure, but I believe this orange ribbon is what directs the information from the HD to the laptop. Becareful because you need this part on the next HD.
After the orange ribbon has been unlatched on the top part (with regards to the picture) you can freely remove the entire HD. The orange ribbon will come with the HD since it is still connected to it on the left. The HD is easy to remove as well, but its hard to lift it out since it is tight in the case. Then you will have the HD in your hands. Remove this aluminum coat and then remove carefully the orange ribbon on the HD. You will need to attach the orange ribbon on your new HD. Hope it helps, goodluck. -
thank you very much. going to try this weekend!
