I was wondering how do I know if my hyperthreading is on?
I am running 3 -4 programs at the same time and my computer is awfully slow?
are there any other solutions to this?
thanks so much[]

Giving windows at least 512meg ram and a 7200rpm harddisk is a good start. Where I differ from conventional wisdom is that I don't have anti-virus software installed. I find that AV software slows a computer down at least 10%. Once a year I'll satisfy my curiousity and run a web based virus scan. I've never had a virus. Same goes for spybot checker. I don't run one 24/7. It's easier to delete the cookie directory on occaision. And it's a good idea to run msconfig to see what junk is loading on startup. The only thing I let stay in there is the new acrobat 7 loader since I frequently view acrobat files and I like the program to open instantly. Things like quicktime, realone player, and all these programs that put update checkers in the startup just eat up resources. I uncheck them and run them manually if the need arises. And occaisionally I will do a chkdsk and defrag. Even a fast harddisk will take a long time reading a file if that file is in a 100 locations on the disk.
I'm not savy on which services can be unchecked so I leave services alone. I was just about to do that when the web site I was going to follow went belly up (www.blackviper.com) If anyone knows the webmaster of blackviper.com, can you ask him if/when he/she is going to put the site back online?
So in conclusion, it's possible to have a well outfitted computer crawl to a snails pace if enough unneeded processes are going on. Office apps and web browser should be speedy on any tweaked/optimized computer.

Thanks. I have done all those already I have no AV software nor any windows update.
I will try the black viper when it is up and running thanks for that site and I will for sure visit it!![]

Regarding hyperthreading, try opening task manager (right click on task bar, task manager, performance tab). I think there should be separate CPU Usage and CPU Usage History windows for each of the virtual processors and one could check utilization there. I'm not sure if windows automatically divides out cpu cycles for each hyperthread or if a program must be written to utilize it.
