Uh...I don't think you can just put screens into "1st place", "2nd place", etc. In the end, how good a screen looks depends on the manufacturer. I, and I bet some others will agree with me, Fujitsu and Sony's notebooks tend to have better screens than most notebooks made by other companies. I would personally say that Sony screens are the best and that Fujitsu screens are a close second. I think that Sony screens tend to be more bright whereas Fujitsu screens tend to have better contrast.

I like the Sony screens better than the Fujitsu screens as well. I have noticed that screen quality can vary quite a bit from unit to unit as well. When I first started checking out laptops, I saw a Fujitsu N3511 at a CompUSA, and the screen looked...well, bad. The contrast was mushy, and everything looked a little blurry. The Sony S460 nearby looked incredible, sharp and clear. Then I went to another CompUSA, which had a Fujitsu with a great screen and a Sony with a mediocre screen.

To me, anyway, it seemed like the Sonys were consistently better than any other glossy display I saw. Of course, others prefer the matte screens found on other manufacturers' products (IBM, Toshiba, etc.).

It depends on the model, but I think there's very little difference between the latest Sony and Fujitsu displays. Those two are much better than the next tier down, which would probably be Toshiba.

Sony and Fujitsu screens are on par... I have to say that Sony tends to lean towards the warmer colours (whites are more yellow) whereas Fujitsu is more neutral (white with a tiny bit of blue).

If brightness is important, go with Sony. If you want contrast, go with Fujitsu.

Fujitsu is the best in my opinion, the N6210 screen is absolutely amazing, my gf has a VAIO and i don't think there is much comparison, but you can't go wrong with either, Sony and Fujitsu are both very very good.

The screen colors on the Fujitsu S7020 are great- BUT- there are a few issues - one is the super-bright band along the bottom of the screen, and another is durability. To make these laptops nice and light there is a lot more plastic and these units have lots of screen flex. Press on the back and there are lots of ripples. I don't know if that will be problematic in the long run, but I found it worrisome esp. in light of other issues I had with the unit. The glossy screen can be a tad reflective and annoying on office applications with overhead light or by a window.
That said, I liked the Fujitsu CV screen much better than Sony's and Toshiba's, in that order. However, by far the BEST screen I have seen is Portableone's upgrade screen available on the UX and the MX- this transreflective screen appears to combine the best features of glossy and matte screens, in my opinion. It is reputedly new technology, and it is quite impressive!

In my personal opinion, Sony screens display the whitest whites and blackest blacks whereas Fujitsu screens best show all the other colors. I think the Sony screens tend to sometimes wash out some colors.

    And this is based on?

I own several Sony computers and can attest to their quality. A key reason to buy them IS the screen.

Ive seen both Sony and Fujitsu. Yes, Sony are a little bit brighter, but thats it. I wouldnt want my screen any brighter anyway. Everything else about the Fujitsu screens are without comparison.

I used to think Fujitsu's CV screen was the best- BUT- like many others have reported, glare was noticeable, although I did not find is as irritating as others found it. After getting Portableone's new transreflective screen, I can honestly say I think it beats the Fujutsu CV hands down, combining the best features of the glossy screens (color depth and clarity/richness) and the matte screens (easy on the eyes when using Office apps. with overhead lighting).

True, it is a lot of money- BUT- if you are one of many who find the glare extremely annoying, oftentimes causing headaches or fatigue, it is a nice option; since I had the opportunity to experience both, I figured others might appreciate a comparison.

The other thing is with Portableone's units you are getting durable equipment, with better build quality, without the screen flex that is present on the S7020's at least.

Basically, Sony's main advantage is their brightness on their XBRITE screens because they use a dual-lamp (XBRITE-ECO is dimmer and uses single lamp).

Remember that higher brightness does not equal to richer colours/higher contrast. It may not be apparent but sometimes notebooks with very high brightness just makes the images look washed out.
