at one point Infrared was very important to me since my cellphone/pda did not have bluetooth. I looked around the web and found USB infrared adaptors.

What exactly is 'infrared' and what does it do/how does it work?

Any good suggestion of USB infrared adapters? I need one to connect my Fujitsu P1510D to an IrDA enabled mobile printer.

i did not actually buy one because i upgraded to notebook (acer)that has an IrDA . I might get one too since my current notebook (compaq) only has Bluetooth and no infrared for my old PDA (palmVx, & E).

i was looking at these http://www.usbgear.com/USB-Infrared.html

i searched newegg.com too by typing IrDA USB on the search keyword. I got 3 models returned. They have reviews

in notebooks it lets you communicate with other devices like bluetooth but has to be with-in line of sight. It's kinda like your TV/VCR/DVD remote control (wich use infrared to control your appliances.

right now most wireless mouse or keyboards available use either radio frequency ot bluetooth wireless that has their own receivers. There are probably infrared keyboards still but they have thier own receivers aswell and probably (note sure) not work with built -in infrared receivers.

here is a better description. http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/I/IrDA.html
