Actually, this is my first-ever home computer. I've researched for a loooong time and have known for at least a couple of years that I was set on an S-series Lifebook, I just didn't make up my mind to make the purchase until I saw the S6231. After stumbling onto your forums a while back, I decided to order from Portable One. I had great service. I ordered the week of Thanksiving and was told they would recieve their stock from Fujitsu today (12/07) and send it out within 24 hours. I actually received it last Friday. I upgraded to 1x512 MB & 40 GB 5400 RPM.

My only question (so far) -- is the thing supposed to be that quiet?? the fan goes on for about 3 seconds when I turn the machine on and after that it's complete and blissful silence. The bottom gets warm, but nowhere near hot. I will be very happy if that's the way it's supposed to work, but from seeing friends' laptops of various designs I always noticed their fans kicking on fairly regularly and wonder if I should worry that my fan is broken or if it is working properlt but just doesn't need to come on. Thanks for any comments.

Congratulations on your new Laptop !!

I am also interested in the S6231. Hopefully it wont take me 2 years !!

    Few questions:
Did Fujitsu by any chance make the LCD backlit?
    How is the wirless reception?
Is the keyboard still white or have they gone to all black like the S7
    How is the battery life?
    How big is the charger?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

well that's a good problem to have! a laptop being too quiet is a blessing for sure, and you shouldn't worry about the fact the fan doesn't want to run -- in only kicks in at critical temperatures and apparently you just aren't reaching those.

Here's a link to an app you can run that will display temperature down in the system tray:

Scorpio, here's a review with many good pictures that should help you, the S6210 is very similar to the S6231 so it should answer a lot of questions.

And like people meantioned, it depends what kind of number crunching you're doing.

Does the S6231 already have Windows XP Service Pack 2 already installed? I keep asking, but the people who pop in to say "hey, I got my s6231" seem to disappear off the face of the earth.
