I was just wondering, are there any negative effects to my laptop/battery if I have the AC adapter plugged in but I take the battery out? Would this increase/prolong my battery life? Any effects at all?

    Appreciate the feedback! Thanks!

It would prolong it by not wearing it through unnessary charging cycles. Theoretically.
It wont hurt, but by how much will it prolong it, i can't tell, you might not notice it at all but if it gives you peace of mind this can't be bad.

iirc, the best way to conserv a battery is to put it in a cool place.

Just a query, wouldn't having the battery installed in your laptop and being powered by AC current help to soak up possible "surges" that may come through the outlet where it's plugged? The transformer may help with that but the battery should also which makes me think that just powering a laptop without the battery installed might not be a good idea. What are some of your thoughts?

In my case using my P or the Acer, I run the battery down to like 5% or so before plugging in the charger to charge the battery back up. Every 5 or 6 cycles I run the battery totally down to 0 before charging it up. Will this help me make the batteries in both my laptops last as long as possible before having to buy one?

Yes, practicing full discharge and then recharging will prolong the battery life, from what i've heard/been advised anyway.

Do you know of any good 'surge protecting' power adapter (power bars that have 5 - 6 outlets on them?). I currently use one, but I can't recall if I had this exact one at the time, but a surge (a while back) came through the current and literally 'cracked the processor in two', according to the individual I took it to for repairs. (Is that even possible)

Any specific brand or some kind of 'name / type' would be appreciated. Or just, in general safety tips ect. Thanks

A friend of mine actually left his battery in his Fujitsu while powered by the AC current and within one year, his battery life went from 2 hours to about 20 minutes. Apparently, taking the battery out while having the AC current powering the computer will prolong battery life. Also...batteries are lithium-ion right and not the nickel-cadium. The nickel one has a "memory" right?

yes you must once a while use and recharge to prolong the battery life if you seldom use the battery power !!
