I just placed my order for the n6010 at Portableone.com For $60 less than Fujitsu website, I got the 60gb 7200 rpm hard drive, and a 3 year maintanace agreement. The problem is, I just called to see when it would be shipped, and a tech answered the phone and said sale staff is off until Monday, so the order wouldn't even begin to be processed until then. UGH! I went out of my mind making the decision on which computer to get. Now that I finally made up my mind, I WANT IT!! :) My question is 1) should I just wait? 2) how hard is it to change the hard drive myself, if I order the computer from Fujitsu (comes with slower 100 gb drive). or 3) Is there a better online source to order this item from? Thank you, Amy P.S. What is the battery life like on these machines?

    Hey,

From what I ahve heard (no personal experience yet but soon[ :p]) P1 is a great retailer and people have been very happy with them. I would wait it out if I was you. I know the feeling though [ :D] YOU JUST WANT IT NOW!!

I am still breaking my head over which Fujitsu to get after my ACER Ferrari died. So one step behind you!

    Hey Flyboy,

Thanks for the response. I think I will wait it out. The only problem is, I made the mistake of doing more research. Now I am wondering if I made a mistake getting a Mobile Pentium 4 processor. Do you know if it shortens the battery life way more than Pentium M? Does the n6010 get hot, noisy? I spent $2400, and now I wonder if I got a dinosaur. I'm looking at the other Fujitsus now.

I can't say anything about the battery life yet, but the thing is very quiet. It just makes a soft whir when the fan comes on. Haven't sat it on my lap to use yet, but others have said it does not get uncomfortably hot. I'll post more about this stuff once I've had a chance to use it...

    HelpAppreciated,

I can only say that the P-4 does use more power and will have less battery life then the P-M...by how much you will have to ask other or look at intel's website I think I remember seeing something about it there.

I think I am going to go with a S6231 or S7010 because they are more portable...but that is a choic you have to make.

I think this is one of those painful situations where you just have to be patient. If you cancelled the order and then bought from Fujitsu, you could possibly run into the same problem, or who knows what. Better to not second guess yourself. I ordered mine late Friday evening 12/17 from P1 and it didn't ship until Wed. 12/23. Then got hung up in Memphis and finally arrived today, 12/29!

Just wait it out, the N6 is a great machine.

As for the P4, it draws more power, has more heat and less battery life than the PM, but it also offers more raw computing power in many cases. It's not obsolete by any means. Most DTR machines come with P4's or AMD chips.

I would definitely wait it out.

I've bought a few units from them, and have referred a number of friends, and P1 has never let me down. they're absolutely wonderful.

I wish i could comment on your battery life question, but i've had my unit plugged into AC while using it ever since i received mine a few weeks back.

Oh geez! I already cancelled it. Now I am going to uncancel it. I probably will have it plugged in most of the time anyway. Is it noisy or hot when it is plugged in?
Is it fast? I will be mainly surfing the web. Working on my webpage (lots of pictures), and transferring videos from video camera and editing, and burning them to dvd. Is this a good machine for these jobs?
    Thanks,
    Amy

    Hey Amy,

when i've had my unit plugged in, it hasn't been noisy or hot.

I've been doing similar tasks that you mentioned in your last post, and yes, the machine has definitely been fast, and that's with just 512MB ram installed since i'll be upgrading to 2GB ram in the next month or two.

I would definitely "uncancel" that order if i were you. it'll definitely be worth the wait! [ :)]

I have the N6010 and the heat produced by it is minimal. I play NFSU2 and Age Of Empire 2 on it and the wrist area does not get hot. It is slighty warm on the users left, but nothing unbearable. I have a harddrive temperature program and I have never seen it go over 45degrees celsius. I have the stock 60GB 4200rpm (and it is from Toshiba).

This machine is quiet. Under little stress, it makes no noise, sounds like no fan is running. When it goes on, it is somewhat noticable in a quiet room. Nothing really loud but bearable. If you are a 2 meters away, you will not be abe to hear it.

I have not unplugged my unit from the AC adapter, but I do not expect long hours of usage from this unit.

It seems like everyone who has this notebook only runs it from a plugged connection. lol

The only thing I do not like about this notebook is the media controls. The buttons are really solid, a bit too much. They make a loud clicking noise when I click on them. And I have not found a way to utilize the extra media buttons in windows.

Battery life isn't an issue for me at all since I have it plugged all the time. If you wanted portability, you wouldn't be looking at this machine anyway because it's definitely quite heavy. So far, I LOVE my N6010. I have not had any problems with noise or it heating up too hot yet...the longest I've had it on at a time was about 4-5 hours.
