My new s6210 is great except that I get nothing with wireless in locations where other computers are getting a strong signal. The wireless feature is ON in bios, backpanel switch and enabled everywhere. There is no difference if WEP is on or off. I have tried all settings and even read the manual about setting up, the wireless. I am not trying to set up networking yet, just trying to verify that the wireless feature works at all.
Are there any wireless setup procedures that are easy to miss that I should try?
The computer is only 3 weeks old so I still have warranty but just don't want to install software on a replacement computer.
    Thanks for your help.

No, the wireless should be working if it's on everywhere. The switch is the obvious thing that some people miss. Call support...they might try giving you a new wireless card before swapping the entire machine. Rather, you might want to ask for that to happen first.

Try going to control panal and then "Intel Pro Set for Wireless."

Then click on the "Networks" tab and where it says "Available Networks" click scan.

You probably already tried this, and I dont know if this will actually help, but its worth try.

Also, this wouldnt be a firewall problem would it?

The very first thing that come to my mind is MAC filtering. If the AP have MAC filter turn on, the notebook will not see it, cannot talk to the AP at all, just like it weren't there. With WEP on, your notebook should still see the AP, except, it cannot communicate w/o correct key. If you can't find the key, sniff it[ :D], maybe I shouldn't go there. The point is, you should test it w/ open network to find out for sure. But if you bring your notebook to places that have hotspot, then you might be able to see the AP, eventhough you can't surf.

Problem solved. "Scott" at Fujitsu Canada advised me to delete the network bridge (right click on the symbol and then delete: control panel, network, network bridge). Then unplug network cable (RJ45). Then delete the Intel Pro wireless from Hardware (control panel, system, hardware). Restart XP and it reinstalls the Intel Pro wireless and everything works fine. I don't know why it was screwed up . Don't know what the network bridge thing is. It does not appear in my desk XP machines. Now I get strong signals from three local APs.
I was very impressed with Fujitsu phone service here (Canada). Almost instant pickup and a guy with the right answer immediately. That alone really increases the value of a Fujitsu. I am very glad not to have to replace the notebook and thus waste all my software installation time.

I'm also in Canada and had an identical experience. In fact, it's too bad i didn't see you query earlier or I could have helped you out. I had the same problem with my wife's S6120 when it arrived. I placed a call to Fujitsu Canada and was given the same set of instructions. Since then (April) wireless has worked flawlessly and has been a joy to use. We love our Fujitsu and will buy another one when the opportunity arises.

Bridge usually is not on by default.
Bridge works similar to a router when you have two or more network card. So when you bridge two networks together, the data can cross from oneside of the network to the other, and your notebook become kinda like a router. And when you are in a bridge mode, you can't use those connection for other stuff. Some crackers(the correct term here) can hack(informal here) into your notebook through wireless, and turn on the bridge, so now they can have access to your LAN network through your wireless. If this problem happened again, you may want to check into it. notify your admin at work, and turn off your wifi when you are not inuse. I also suggest getting a software firewall for everybody who use wireless network.

    Hello Accendo,

Can you plz help me out with a similar problem. I got a Fujitsu C2310 just two days back and I have had no success with the Wireless connection so far. I am trying to connect to a D-link wireless router. When I called up Fujitsu tech support they advised me to delete the 'bridge' but that hasn't helped. But I am yet to try deleting the Intel Pro Wireless. May be this will solve the problem? Please advise. Appreciate any help in this regard.

    Thank you,
    Ram

Hey I had that same issue too, but it didnt affect my wireless connection, the network bridge showed up when i went into the My Netowrk Places and on the left pane I clicked onto the Set up a home or small office connection, and it created the bridge. So far it hasn't cause me any problems from what I know of either.
