hello there. I am new here although i have been lurking around the forum cos i find this place very informative when it comes to notebooks.
Now i am facing a dilemma which i need recommendation from professional and experienced users like you all. I am stuck between 2 notebook decisions and dont know which oen to get. The Fujitsu S6120D and IBM R40.
IBM R40
Processor: Pentium M (1.3 GHz)
RAM: 256 MB
Hard Drive: 20 GB
Weight: 5.5 lbs
Display: 14.1 in
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Features: 5.5 lbs, Intel Pentium M 1.3 GHz , 20 GB IDE Portable , 14.1 in TFT active matrix , 1 Lithium Ion , Microsoft Windows XP Professional
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
S6120D
Processor: Pentium M (1.4 GHz)
RAM: 256 MB
Hard Drive: 30 GB
Weight: 4.4 lbs
Display: 13.3 in
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Features: 4.4 lbs, Intel Pentium M 1.4 GHz , 30 GB IDE Portable , 13.3 in TFT active matrix , 1 Lithium ion , Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
My problem is: The price for the IBM R40 is cheaper than the Fujitsu 6129D by about 250 bucks. but the fujitsu doesnt come with warranty (i am getting from ebay). The price for the IBM is brand new but the fujitsu is a used unit.
what the IBM has that i want but not in fujitsu: larger screen, XP Pro, cheaper price, warranty
what the fujitsu has but not in IBM: 10Gb more of HDD, lighter in weight, better design, dvd/cdr combo drive
please do help. what do u think? I would like a machine that has good multimedia capabilities and maybe some occasional gaming but not too much of course. please advice

It depends on what is most important to you. Warranty or features...and if you're willing to take a little bit a risk on ebay. I've had great luck buying tech goods from ebay, but I make sure they have very good feedback first.
1. I don't think you'll see much difference in the larger screen because they both max out at 1024x768. The 13.3" is perfect for that resolution.
2. If you're using it on a corporate LAN you'll need XP Pro in order to authenticate with the domain controller. Otherwise XP Home should be fine.
3. Weight may be a factor if you travel a lot. 1 lb. can make a lot of difference if you're schlepping it around all week through airports.
4. Have you checked www.newegg.com or www.portableone.com for prices on a new Fujitsu?
Let us know what the prices you're looking at are. Maybe there's better deals on other brand new machines too.
