Was wondering around with time frame will Alviso chipset start rolling out? Also, will this change the whole Fujitsu laptop look?..new design?? And how much would you think it will cost for the Alviso, and the price decrease from the Dothan S6XXXX series..? I debating to purchase the S6231 now or wait for the Alviso, I'm not in a rush to get a laptop, but the sooner the better! [ :D] What are the major changes (in easist terms - what does it do?) Thanks a bunch!

This has been discussed in other topics, FYI.

We're thinking March for the new S. As with most companies there will not be a redesign of the unit itself. This update doesn't require a case change. As for cost, unknown, but a spike of $150-$300 is probably reasonable.

Seems like the Alviso will also equip with Bluetooth capabilities?

And in '06 we're supposed to have microsoft longhorn OS? And isn't AMD going to present a viable alternative to the centrino?

That is an old article...I don't think Bluetooth is part of the setup, but it sure would be nice to have.

Alviso to make Fujitsu S series in March...is just too long.. sigh. tempted to buy now, but love the new Sonoma. Will those prices in the artical about the Sonomo today be added on top of the configuration? Will there be a starting base $1499 price with that chip?...

Too early to tell on pricing, but if you look at the few that are available now, prices are not jumping much at all. Look at the Toshiba M35 and M45 for reference.

If it were released march 1st, one could argue that january is almost over, thus the wait would be little more than a month. On the other hand, if it's released at the end of march, then that's over two months away. If the current graphics were severely crippled, one could argue that waiting for 91% increase would be worth it, but if the end use of the laptop is surfing and word processing (not gaming), why bother waiting?

Reviews of recently released alviso laptops aren't all that complimentary of the speed increase, but that doesn't dampen the dogged determination to wait for bleeding edge gear.

While we're waiting for sonoma/alviso, any chance we will also be able to par-take of a bigger version of the 7k60 in March or what is the time frame for the successor to the 7k60 as the fastest notebook drive.

Faster? No, but larger 7200 RPM drives should be coming this year.
