I am planning to order the Fujitsu N6000 at portableone. At first, I was going to order directly from Fujitsu's website, but Portable One had an option to allow me a 5400RPM 80GB harddrive & was also cheaper than Fujitsu's website.

I have a few questions regarding portable one though. How long do they take to ship? Do they charge a stocking fee, shipping fee, or similar fee if I happen to want to return the laptop? Portable One is giving me options to change specs of the N6000. Does that mean portable one opens up the laptop to make the changes or they also order directly from the manufacturer & ship it to you? And how is the reputation of portableone? Thanks!

I bought my N5010 at P1. Yes, they will open up your machine to make changes, provided that you asked for specs different from how Fujitsu ships it. They are a fujitsu certified/authorized repair center, so no need to worry about them opening up the machine. It will be fine. It can take as long as a month, depending on the stock they have on hand. They will tell you how long it will take if you call and ask- very friendly folks. I don't recall a restocking fee and I think you will have to pay for return postage. Very nice folks.

Excuse me for jumping in ( again ) but now not a word about p***

I too was going to order it from P1 but was told they will be available only 8/12 . Does Fujitsu Delay them ?

Opening your box by someone who knows and care might be a good thing , so you don't get a DOA , bad screen etc.

Fujitsu's very first shipments will begin on December 8th from Japan, therefore first orders should be filled by 12/11 thru 12/13/04.

I tried to place a fake order on fujitsu.com and their esitmated shipping date is on December 8th, so portableone's shipping isn't that delayed. Are there any other places that have the N6000 available for shipping immediately? Thanks!

Betty I didn't mean P1 delayed I meant Fujitsu release date delayed , and I guess you can't since even the offical site don't have it .

I've been waiting to buy a 17" for months now , each time there is some set back , crappy video cards , upcoming pci-E notebooks , new designs that were supposed to come out .. now 2-3 more weeks .

Fujitsu is really confusing us since the rebate form buy period is november to december .. how can I buy in november if they ship only in december ?!

Thanks Ivan , are they really made in Japan ?
can I secure one for me by ordering now ?

I ordered the N6000 and today, my order status changed to: "manufacturer direct ship". Does this mean Fujitsu will directly ship to me? However, I ordered a 7200RPM 60GB harddrive and that is not available on fujitsu's site.

Awesome! I just checked my order status again and it turned into "shipping" already with a tracking number. I just ordered yesterday! They're fast :)

I ordered from portableone. From the tracking, it left California yesterday. Is that where portableone is based?

False alarm....I looked at the fedex tracking and realized that the destination was not my State, so I called up portableone. Turns out portableone mistakenly put the tracking number of another item to my order number. More waiting[ :(] I hope I get it on time for Christmas though so I have time to play with it during days off from work :)

There have been some folks that posted problems- search the earlier threads. I believe the problems were all related to P1 trying to do "extra" things for people- shipping address different from billing address, delay shipping an item, that sort of thing.

My order went very smoothly. They got the machine one day, changed HD out and had is shipped to me the next day.

*Good news* , the N6010 is marked as in stock , so it looks like its available for order .

*Some bad news* , it seems to be made in China and not Japan after all ( got my hopes high ) .

Everything is made in China nowadays. I too was also happy thinking that Fujitsu might be made in Japan, but oh well....

gino, what site marked the N6010 as "in stock"?

I saw the Fujitsu N6010 model at DataVision Computers in NYC. After reading reviews on epinions about this store, I don't trust myself to buy from them even though they seem nice in real life.

The computer is nice looking. The top feels like stovetop (that's the best I could describe it) and it appeared to be a dirty white rather than ibook clean white (I was really hoping the white would look like an ibook!) and the keys appear dirty white too (if you take a look at the Compaq R3000s, that's the color of the keys).

Unforunately, when I went, they were just setting up the model, so they didn't have the monitor turned on for me to see how things are. I really hope the font size is a reasonable size. Many people want a high resolution, but I want a more normal sized resolution since I type and read a lot on the computer.

Oh, newegg's deal is awesome if that's the only features you need. They didn't have the more powerful laptop that I wanted though, so I have to stick to portableone. P1 said that I should receive my laptop by next week, but I'm pretty confused with them.

What is the contrast ratio for the Fujitsu N6xxx screen?
    P1 has it as 600:1
While the Fujitsu website says it is 400:1

btw, has anyone seen or used this notebook, any first impressions? Because I want to get this notebook too.

I never thought I would spend so much time and make so many return trips to computer stores (I never even thought I would post so much here either, but now my status is "Computer Guru![:0][ :p]"), but today, I went to J&R Computer World to see if they had the model in and to get a closer look at it. They finally have it in. I just tried out the typing and numberpad. It was very comfortable and very quiet. Numberpad was also very comfortable though I kinda find it awkward to type on a laptop numberpad rather than keyboard numberpad...just have to get used to it.

They placed the computer right next to the HP 17" and I saw that HP's screen was much darker. I even adjusted both screens to darkest and then highest for both of them, and what the people here said about Fujitsu's display are correct. It is really good, though when I didn't compare it to any other screens, I didn't see anything that blew me away...I just thought the screen looked nice. But when I compared it, you could see the difference.

I was also happy that the font size isn't too small at all. When I ordered the Fujitsu, my biggest worry was that the font size would be too small for easy typing and reading. I guess the 1440 scared me a bit since I'm used to the 1024 size.

As for the physical appearance, the keys and the palm rest area are very white! It definitely stands out from the rest of the laptops on display :)

You know, seeing it and getting to play with a little at the store makes me want my laptop to arrive even faster. I'm so tempted to call p1 just to ask when it might arrive (they said I should get it this week last week, but no tracking # yet), but I don't want to be one of those annoying customers either.

    What does contrast ratio mean?

" In reference to computer monitors, the measurement of the difference in light intensity between the brightest white and the darkest black. Contrast ratio is often used in marketing computer monitors, where a high contrast ratio, such as 400:1, represents a better color representation (the better the information will appear against a darker background) on the monitor than a lower contrast ratio, such as 150:1. "

I am thinking of ordering mine this week .. but I want to read some users opinion before ordering it. General impressions and how it stable the notebook is. None of my friends have owned a Fujitsu notebook, so hopefully their build is good.
Thanks for you brief review of the Lifebook N6010 Betty77, I am as anxious as you are.. only I haven't ordered mine yet. lol
