    Dear sirs,
I have today(30/10/04)purchased a Fujitsu-Seimens Amilo A1630 Notebook and having set it up I have found a problem with the DVD playback. The image intermittently stops and locks up then will play again and lock up again. I have turned off the Hardware Accelerator as suggested in the manual's troubleshooting section and although this seemed to help, the problem is still there. Also, while this locking up is occuring, the DVD drive makes a 'clicking' noise which suggests it may be a hardware problem. The DVD software used is InterVideo and also InterActual Player and the problem occurs on both. Can you advise on possible causes of this and do you think there is a fault with the notebook itself?
I intend to return it to the retailer from where I purchased it ( Micro Anvica, Tottenham Court Rd. London) unless you can advise me of the cause and a solution for this problem.

Does this happen on every DVD CD that you play on the notebook or just a paticular DVD? Is the disc clean?

I'd go ahead and swap it for a new drive at this point. It sounds like a hardware problem to me.

If thats the case, I think you should return the whole entire unit again and get a brand new one. Thats pretty weird having two drives not working on you. And if not, try a different Fujitsu-Siemens series.

well they gave me a new unit from the first time but it seems that this one has the same problem., I am not sure yet.
I tried to do a test of the drive with nero and at the middle of teh test the drive speed droped at 0.22 which is strange. I thought it is a driver thing and I am going to reinstal everything. if I will have the same problems with this one also I will change the unit and get another one( second time) but this time something else, anything but no more fujitsu.
p.s. both units were absolutely new no doubt about this

Good luck in fixing your problem. If it does persists in doing the same thing over again, I suggest to try a different series or a different kind of notebook.

This may or may not be related but I had a similar problem on a Vaio v505 and a triple layer DVD.

I put the DVD in my drive and got the same symptoms above...video starts, stops, starts again, stops, etc. etc. etc.

I figured my Fujitsu was newer so I threw it in there...perfect playback. I put the same DVD in a normal consumer player...perfect playback. I put a regular 2 hour CD in the v505...perfect playback. Put the triple layer disk back in the v505...same problems (start, stop, start, stop).

So it could be the disc itself. Have you tried the DVD in any other drive/player? I'm thinking that if you've gone through two machines and have the same symptopms, it's the disc.
