Would love to hear your opinions on the s2110. I thought it was the best quality and value in the portable category 1000 to 1200 price rang. Is there something better. Will the 60 gb 4200 hard drive or 1.6 ghz processor be limiting. I figured I could always upgrade the hard drive later on. Thanks for your opinions.

Well, I don't own one but this is one of the notebooks I was strongly considering when I first started shopping a few months ago. After some more research I personally felt it was a little underpowered in the processor department (for my purposes), although Fujitsu eventually did it a small favor by beginning to ship it with the Turion MT-30 rather than the MT-28, thus bumping the processor's L2 cache from 512K to 1MB. Otherwise everything I've read about it indicates it is a very all-around solid machine. I guess it all depends on what you're going to be using it for. I am looking ahead to Vista, while that may not matter to you at all. It could turn out that it will run it perfectly fine, but I wasn't willing to bet $1,200 on it. Who knows, if they refresh the S2000 in the next couple of months with a faster processor, I may still consider buying it. On the other count I would almost certainly upgrade the hard drive later on as you suggested.

    Just my 2ยข.

ive had my s2110 for a couple months now and even wrote a review about it for this site. I am extremely happy with my purchase. I did upgrade to the 1GB ram and also have the faster hard drive. I constantly run adobe creative suite 2 and it works flawlessly. Here is my review...

And a very fine review it is. :D There are a couple of other reviews here, and I've yet to see a negative one. Almost convinvced me to go ahead and buy one. But, ah, still waiting and watching. Dang, I'm indecisive......

I went ahead and purchased one from newegg.com but after reading all the negatives of ordering a notebook from newegg, I was able to cancel the order since my order hadn't processed yet. I decided to put my order in with portableone.com, after reading all the positive comments about this reseller. Thanks for you comments.

Good move. I've heard great things about Porable One. I've been exchanging emails with Ivan at P1 asking about different models and he's alway answered them within 30 minutes or less! If that's any indication of their level of service I will definitely be buying from them if I go Fujitsu.

i've had my s2110 for less than a month now. ordered it from portableone and the transaction was smooth. definately customer-oriented
i guess the only issue i would bring up with the laptop is the fan noise. the fan turns on and off fairly frequently and isn't that quiet... or maybe i'm just sensitive to it but its quite audible in my opinion.
does anyone know if there is something i can do about this?

That was my main issue when I reviewed the S2110 as well...I felt the fan turned on frequently as well.

There really wasn't anything I could to do to prevent the fan from turning on as much, unfortunately...

still thought it was a nice notebook overall

Any reason to hold off on getting a S2110 now? Such as an update, whatever. Not worried about dual core, Vista, etc. I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on:

Portable One (+ call to check for dead pixels):
    S2110
    MT-30 1.60 GHZ
    13.3 XGA
    CDRW/ DVD combo
    56K + 10/100 WIFI
1.28 GB ram, using 1 256 stick that comes with it plu 1GB from newegg, probably Crucial [+100 or so]
128 of that given to the video ram
    40 GB 4200 RPM hard drive [-50]
    3 year warranty [+100]

    1200-50+100+100 = ~$1350

Faster hard drive or modular battery coming later if I thought I really needed them.

I have had mine since the beginning of January and couldn't be happier. Purchased mine directly through Fujitsu (at the time it was free shipping, $50 coupon, and free 512 flash drive) and I searched all over for competitive pricing. If I had found this forum and read the reviews on portableone, I would have used them most likely, but Fujitsu direct was easy to deal with and very helpful on the phone.

I added the dvd writer (haven't gotten around to using it yet) and switched to the 60gb hd (the lower RPM). I'm fine with the 512 ram and the battery life is wonderful so far. My biggest concern when buying this was the weight and battery life and I can safely say this laptop exceeded my expectations for quality and value. The review posted by aluminumpork covers everything on this laptop and I believe this was a great choice for me. On top of everything, I've always been an AMD fan and that's what initially brought me to this laptop (that and the fact that fujitsu has been the best hard drive manufacturer I have ever dealt with).

Things that bother me: Fingerprints show up on the case (big deal), Have to use the function key for certain keys I'd prefer to have set as primary (home, end), I wish it came with bluetooth (can't have it all, no biggie), and I would have loved a fingerprint reader built in :) Of course, I'm asking for ridiculous options and the price would be in the 1500-2000 range if they added them. I went ahead with this because it had everything I needed and Fujitsu has a good reputation in my book.

Waiting for an update/upgrade model? You'll be waiting forever, they are always going to make newer better ones 2 days after you buy one. You can always change things or sell it later. I think this laptop will retain value for a while, but only for those who understand why this is better than the 300 dollar dell or hp at walmart. Good luck!

the fan wasnt an issue for me because the laptop i had before was 6 years old and as loud as a train. the fan does go on at start up and spin quite fast but it quickly goes down in speed. i watch a lot of movies on the s2110 and it stays pretty quiet atleast for me.

Received my 2110 a few days ago.

    Downsides:
The bottom of the laptop gets very warm, not the best for lap use
Noticable fan sometimes, not loud, but there
Fingerprint prone everywhere, dust magnet screen

    Positives:
Pretty much everything else.. perfect size, excellent screen, usable keyboard, weight, nice build, battery life, yadda yadda

Pleased with the purchase.. night and day over my old Dell D610.

Glad you like the S2110. When I reviewed that machine I must say that all the positives defintely outweigh the negatives!

    Enjoy your laptop

the bottom gets hot because magnesium alloy lets the hot air out. Thats why its called a notebook, not a laptop.
