It's always hard to know without listening, but a rattle is generally not normal.

you should be worried if you start hearing a whine. i had two WD harddrives die after a period of whining.

i had a fan in a PSU rattle for a while, it died later that week...
strange noises are never good IMO

My Amilo's fan has been whining since i bought it. I always thought it was just a loud noise and was normal. Should I be worried?

I am in US and I am not going back home untill summer, I can't get it fixed before that :(

fans are different then harddrives. some fans just whine. i know the so called silent fan from papst has a clicking problem.

also, some harddrives just make funny noises. Hitachi harddrives for example have a touch of whine and a loud reset noise that sounds like a cat meow or screech.
